Base Set 2, released in 2000 for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, is a compilation-style expansion that brings together selected cards from the original Base Set and the Jungle expansion, offering players another chance to collect and play with some of the most iconic early Pokémon. While it does not introduce new story elements, its lore reflects the early Kanto region era, featuring classic Pokémon such as Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, and Mewtwo, along with familiar Trainers that evoke the journey of a young Trainer traveling through Gyms and wild routes. Mechanically, the set continues the foundational gameplay of the TCG: players use Energy cards to power attacks, evolve Pokémon from Basic to Stage 1 and Stage 2 forms, manage Hit Points and status conditions, and strategically play Trainer cards to gain advantages in battle.
