Finally, after 25 years accompanying the iconic Pokémon Trainer from Pallet Town, Ash, a new era will begin in Pokémon Anime. Ash’s journey was announced to be ending this year and did end this Friday with the last episode of “Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series”, titled “Rainbow and the Pokémon Master!”.
In the episode, Ash returns to his hometown after winning the World Championship and revisits old faces, Pokémon, Friends and Rivals alike, as he reflects on what it means to be a “Pokémon Master”, the thing he yearned for all these years.

In true Pokémon fashion, the “friendship” theme comes along once more as he reaches the conclusion that being a Master means caring for all the people and Pokémon he’s met throughout the years. The episode ends with him and Pikachu walking towards a Rainbow on the horizon, Team Rocket not further behind in an air balloon themselves.
It might not be the end of his journey in canon, but now they’re on a path viewers won’t follow, and the new characters, Liko and Roy, will take over as main characters in the new show, “Pokémon Horizons: The Show”.
A summary of the new series shows promise for these two new characters:
“In ‘Pokémon Horizons: The Series,’ dual protagonists Liko, whose partner Pokémon is Sprigatito, and Roy will encounter many characters during their journey, including a group led by Friede and Captain Pikachu called the Rising Volt Tacklers.”
“Traveling across the Pokémon world on an airship, the Rising Volt Tacklers include Orla, who enjoys mechanical and electrical work and is accompanied by her partner Pokémon, Metagross; Murdock, who is skilled at cooking, and his partner Pokémon, Rockruff; Mollie, who specializes in healing treatments, and her partner Pokémon, Chansey; and Ludlow. ”
“Liko and Roy will also come across Amethio, who is joined by his partner Pokémon, Ceruledge, and belongs to an organization called the Explorers, as well as a popular video streamer known as Nidothing.”
