Hello everybody. I'm Rodrigo, and I'm here to bring you more information about the world of Pokémon TCG. Today, I'm going to show you some news about Silver Tempest, the latest Sword/Shield expansion of the main expansions according to the data we have so far.
So without further ado, let's get to the analysis.
Silver Tempest as per Japanese expansion and Theories
As is nothing new, all the American expansions we know are derived from one or two Japanese collections to compose them.
For example, the Astral Radiance, released on 05/27/2022, was based on two expansions: Time Gazer and Space Juggler.

The Lost Origin, released on 09/09/2022, in its entirety was based on the Japanese expansion Lost Abyss, but there were cards from other expansions that were present in the western version, such as the Hisuian Zoroark V LOR 146 and Hisuian Zoroark VSTAR LOR 147 from the Dark Phantasma expansion that entered that set.
That said, the Silver Tempest western release is based on the Paradigm Trigger and also the Incandescent Arcana expansion, but nothing that we can't theorize from some cards that didn't come out to us in the west and that were released in Japan, such as Lost Abyss promos called VSTAR Special Set (from the original: VSTARスペシャルセット) such as Rotom V, Rotom VStar, Zacian V, Zacian VStar, Zamazenta V and Zamazenta VStar.
We also have the possibility to create a theory that the special expansion Deoxys VSTAR (from the original: デオキシスVSTAR DeoxysVSTAR) may also appear in Silver Tempest, although it is considered promotional cards in Japan, and may come in a “promotional box” only with Deoxys V -Regular Form-, Deoxys VStar -Attack Form- and Deoxys VMax -Defense Form-; or perhaps it may be inserted within the Silver Tempest expansion.
But getting back to focus, Silver Tempest will have as a greater weight the Paradigm Trigger and also with the Incandescent Arcana.
The list of Paradigm Trigger that comprises about 98 cards, which can be accessed with full scans, and their attacks translated from Japanese to English at this link, and the Incandescent Arcana list, with the complete scans as well and translated attacks, can be accessed here.
Expansion inspirations: Logo and Pokémon
Interestingly, the typography of the expansion refers to an old expansion at the time of the Ruby/Sapphire block called EX: Unseen Forces (for me, one of the best expansions ever made in history), in addition to the “expansion mascot” itself. be Lugia, just like in the past.
Competitive — Promising Cards
According to the list mentioned above, we have some Pokémon guesses that can be very strong for deck builds with new archetypes like dragon type with Regidrago-VStar and even support Pokémon like Luxray, Delphox and Radiant Jirachi, as well as Trainers and special energies.
Incandescent Arcana
Serene
Choose an option:
- Discard up to 3 cards from your hand. If you discard them in this way, you can draw up to 5 cards in your hand.
Ad
- Switch one of your opponent's Benched V Pokémon to Active Position.
(For sure, this card will fill your pocket and will play a lot until the end of the rotation - so get ready to acquire it).
V Guard Energy
As the card is used, it provides colorless energy. If the Pokémon is attached to it, it takes 30 less attack damage done to your opponent (after applying Weakness and Resistance). You cannot stack this effect.
Radiant Jirachi
- Pass a Wish Ability: If this Pokémon is Knocked Out by damage done by your opponent, you search your deck for 3 cards and put them into your hand. Then shuffle your deck.
- Stellar Doom Attack: (for two colorless energies) you throw two coins. If both hit heads, the opponent's Active Pokémon is Knocked Out.
Mawile VStar
- Sudden Chomper Attack: (for two colorless energies) does 90 damage plus 90 if this Pokémon went from Bench to Active Position.
- VStar Ability Star Rondo: You can only use this ability if this Pokémon is Benched. Switch your Bench Position to Active Position, and if you do, your opponent will do the same, switching one of their Benched Pokémon to be promoted as Active.
(For those who understand this card, it's the old Guzma BUS 115 of the Sun/Moon generation there.)
Delphox
- Attack Sudden Chomper: (for a colorless energy) deals 60 damage for each Serenna card in the discard pile.
- Energy Crush Attack: (for two colorless energies) this attack does 50 more damage for each Energy attached to all of your opponent's Pokémon in play.
Paradigm Trigger
Lance
Search your deck for three Dragon-type Pokémon, reveal them to your opponent, and put them into your hand. Then shuffle your deck.
Quad Stone
You can use 4 Quad Stones at once:
- If you use 2 cards, heal 10 damage from your Active Pokémon.
- If you use all 4 cards, heal all damage from each of your Pokémon (this effect can only be done once by all 4 cards).
(This card is not considered a Tool to attach to any Pokémon).
Regenerative Energy
If you use this card as Energy for the turn together with any Pokémon in your hand that can evolve with a Pokémon V at the same time, you heal 100 damage from that Pokémon (this Energy does not count as a base Energy).
Regidrago-VStar
- Draconic Visions Attack: For two grass and one fire energy, you can choose any attack from one of your dragon-type Pokémon in your discard pile.
Ad
- VStar ability Star Legacy: On your turn, you discard the top seven cards of your deck, and then you can take two cards from the discard pile to your hand.
Luxray
- Explosive Start Ability: If this Pokémon starts as the first draw in your hand before starting the game, you can automatically promote it as an active Pokémon.
- Attack Seeking Fangs: (for a colorless energy) deals 50 damage, and you can still search for two Trainer cards in your deck, reveal them to the opponent and puts them in your hand, and then shuffle your deck.
(For those who don't remember the old mechanics, Luxray is basically a recycling Talonflame STS 96 in the Black/White era).
Litten, Torracat and Incineroar
Litten
- Attack Gnaw: (for a fire energy) 10.
- Reprisal Attack: (for two fire energies) this attack does 20 damage for each damage counter on that Pokémon.
Torracat
- Attack Gritty Claws: (for two fire energies) during the opponent's next turn, if that Pokémon is at full HP and is Knocked Out by an opponent's attack, that Pokémon is not Knocked Out, and its life is reduced to 10 HP remaining.
- Combustion Attack: (for three fire energies) this attack does 70 damage.
Incineroar
- Attack Secret Attack: (for a fire energy) you can choose an attack from your previous evolution and use it.
- Flare Shot Attack: (for two fire energies) this attack does 180 damage and discards all energies attached to it.
Rapidash
- Heat Fast Ability: You can use this ability once per turn by discarding a fire energy from your hand. If you do, your Active Pokémon's attacks deals 30 more damage against the opponent's defending Pokémon.
- Attack Fire Mane: (for a fire energy and a colorless) deals 60 damage.
Considerations
And to wrap up this little taste of the excitement of this expansion, how about catching a glimpse of these wonderful illustrations of the rival birds of Johto, Lugia and Ho-Oh? Although I'm a fan of the fire type, I always preferred Lugia and even more with the wonderful art of the master Mitsuhiro Arita.

Ho-Oh, by Akira Egawa
And then? What did you think of the deductions? Of the possibilities of cards that can modify the Metagame with the aforementioned lists of the Paradigm Trigger and Incandescent Arcana expansions?
