2024 World Pokémon TCG Championship - Main Decks, Pics, Leaked Cards, and More!

The 2024 Pokémon World Championships took place in Honolulu, Hawaii, on August 16th, 17th, and 18th, 2024!

Inside the event, there was an exposition showcasing the history of all the products ever released by The Pokémon Company, including the VGC, TCG, and everything released for each yearly season. It mostly focused on the TCG, and showed products from as early as 2004, which was when The Pokémon Company took over producing and distributing the game.

This card is basically a Paradise Resort PR-SV 45 "reprint", released last year, 2023, in Yokohama.

Over 1,100 players attended the event (more precisely, 1.147), and Brazil was the most represented country in terms of competitive players.

Banishment of Duskull, from Sun & Moon: Cosmic Eclipse

The reason for its ban is due to its combo due to its ability, which by discarding three cards from your hand, you can search for its evolution, Dusclops, more easily in the deck and even place it in the same turn, which encouraged in the Expanded format to use the combo with Dusclops SFA 19 to perform its Curse Blast ability, and help place damage counters even on turn 1, which is good for “One Hit Turn” decks ”.

Trainer Owner: The New Mechanic for Early 2025

The new mechanic is basically a new version of Pokémon SP from Diamond/Pearl, but this gradual evolution process only applies to the signature Pokémon of the Trainer in question.

If you're playing Giovanni's Nidoking, you have to go through the right Nidoran ♂, Nidorino, and Nidoking:

So, in terms of the aesthetic and rarity of these Pokémon, the new mechanic is similar to Pokémon SP, such as:

Here are some cards that were spoiled at the event:

Lillie’s Clefairy ex

- Ability: all enemy Dragon-type Pokémon are now weak to the Psychic type.

- Attack: this attack deals 20 base damage + 20 damage for each Pokémon on both players' benches.

Marnie's Grimmsnarl ex

- Ability: When you play Marnie's Grimmsnarl ex from your hand to evolve 1 of your Marnie's Morgrem during your turn, you may search your deck for up to 5 Basic Darkness Energy SFA 98 and attach them to your Marnie's Pokémon in any way you like. Then, shuffle your deck.

- Attack: deal 180 damage to the opponent's active Pokémon. Then, this attack also does 30 damage to 1 of your opponent's Benched Pokémon (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon).

N’s Zoroark ex

- Ability: You must discard a card from your hand in order to use this Ability. Once during your turn, you may draw 2 cards.

- Attack: Choose 1 of your Benched N's Pokémon's attacks and use it as this attack.

Note: if you thought N's Zoroark ex's ability was oddly familiar, you're right. It's Zoroark-GX SLG 53's ability!

N’s Reshiram

- First attack: This attack does 20 damage for each damage counter on Reshiram.

- Second attack: deal 170 damage.

And, if you take a good look at it, you'll spot a nice Easter egg: Team Rocket's logo, which confirms this western set will be themed around them. I discussed this before in in this article, when some of these trademarks were leaked.

According to the video above, in the next two years the World Championships will be held in the United States of America. It will take place in Anaheim in 2025, and in San Francisco in 2026. Both of these cities are in California.
