Ruler Of The Black Flame Is The Next Exclusive Pokémon TCG Set

This past weekend, from June 9th to 11th, the Japan Championships were happening in the country, bringing all sorts of competitions for several different Pokémon titles. During the livestream, however, Pokémon TCG fans could rejoice because a new set was announced for the card game: the Ruler of the Black Flame set!

This set is the third main set of the Scarlet&Violet series, and its full name is Scarlet & Violet Expansion Pack - Ruler of the Black Flame (ポケモンカードゲーム スカーレット＆バイオレット」 拡張パック 黒炎の支配者). The international version of this set is Scarlet & Violet - Obsidian Flames. The date of release is set for July 28th, 2023, which makes it just under two months before fans and players get to buy the new cards coming with the expansion.

Packs will bring around 30 boosters, and this set introduces a new type of card: Type-Shifted Tera Type EX cards. As cards will be revealed slowly throughout the two months between now and July 28th, there is still a lot to be revealed, but we already know some of the Pokémon which will get new versions with this new type of card. Charizard EX, Tyranitar EX and Eiscue EX have already been revealed:

Other cards revealed were Cleffa, Scyther, Scizor, Mawile and Finizen & Palafin. Elite Four member Poppy has been revealed as a Supporter card, and an item card called Encouragement Letter is also up there in the promo pictures.

This set will contain 108 cards + ??? (SR cards or better)

Once during your turn, when you play this card from your hand to evolve 1 of your Pokémon, you may search your deck for up to 3 Fire Energy and attach them to your Pokémon in play.

RR - Burning Darkness 180+

This attack does 30 more damage for each Prize card your opponent has already taken.

Tyranitar ex

Tera Pokémon ex rule: As long as this Pokémon is on your Bench, prevent all damage done to this Pokémon by attacks (both yours and your opponent’s).

F - Mountain Fling 120

Discard the top 2 cards of your deck.

FF - Mjolnir Rampage 150+

If any of your Benched Pokémon have damage counters on them, this attack does 100 more damage.

Eiscue ex

WWW - Hot Hot Block 160

Discard 1 Energy from this Pokémon. The defending Pokémon can't attack during your next turn.
