Introduction

Today, let's explore one of the most consistent decks in Pokémon Pocket, as well as one of the strongest strategies, both competitively speaking and on the ranked queue: Guzzlord ex.

Guzzlord ex is one of the most resilient cards in the meta. It can tank attacks, disrupt the opponent, and kill them, all at once. Let's see how this deck works!

Guzzlord ex - Main Strategy and Strengths

Instead of multiple Pokémon, this list plays many trainers. As such, it is very similar to old 18T strategies.

Guzzlord ex has 170 HP, which is a lot, considering most Pokémon only have 140 HP at most. As a result, it is very resilient and can take from 3 to 4 hits, depending on the opponent.

Furthermore, Guzzlord ex's first attack forces your opponent to discard energies if you hit heads in your coin flips. That's how you'll disrupt them.

And that's also why this list plays Will. With him, you'll always get heads, so you'll always force your opponent to discard energies.

Will also makes Celesteela deal 100 damage every time. In most matches, this could be the key to win, particularly if you can't set up Guzzlord ex or have to swap your Pokémon.

This list is great against Giratina ex and one of the best counters for any strategy with it. Besides dealing more damage to it because of its type, Guzzlord ex forces them to discard energies when it attacks, and Giratina ex has to "spend" an entire turn to attach them again.

Lastly, we have Lusamine, which lets you set up your second Guzzlord ex faster if you end up losing your first. She is essential if you can't hit your coins or are facing Grass decks or faster strategies. They're all a problem to you.

Cons

This list's biggest problem is Oricorio. You can only beat decks with this card if you use Celesteela and Will together and you won't be able to do this every time.

Oricorio might be relatively popular, but it is one of the few bad matchups for this list. You can deal with all the others pretty well, even if they deal twice as much damage to you because of their Pokémon type.

Tips and Tricks

To pilot this list well, you need to know exactly how much to invest in your Guzzlord ex and when to stop investing in it if you notice you won't be able to Knock out the enemy Pokémon. When this happens, attach energies to your benched Guzzlord ex and use Lusamine to set it up faster.

Only use Will to discard energies on Pokémon that need 2 or more energies to attack. If you use it on Pokémon that need 1 energy to attack, it will be useless. Your opponent will be able to deal damage to you just the same.

Don't play Celesteela if your opponent deals a lot of sniper damage, like Greninja and Suicune ex. These decks manipulate the board with Cyrus, and Celesteela is an easy target for them. Only play her when you want to use her ability.

If you have a second Guzzlord ex in hand, you can't play it on the board early on. If you do, you will be vulnerable to enemy Repels and Sabrinas. Only play your second Guzzlord ex when you need to attach an energy to it.
