Introduction
Now that the Scarlet & Violet block is over, Pokémon TCG is moving to a new block, Mega Evolution, as well as a new set.
The new set will still feature "Pokémon ex" but also mark the beginning of a new block, similar to what Call of Legends was to Heart Gold & Soul Silver.
Check out the image below:

The "Call of Legends" series wasn't officially part of the Heart Gold & Soul Silver block. However, this series featured the same card layout, mechanics, and block structure as Heart Gold & Soul Silver.
This way, the Mega Evolution block will focus on Mega Evolution mechanics, but because of Pokémon Legends: ZA, the new VGC title, its structure is very similar to the last block, Scarlet & Violet.

So, this is how each block is currently displayed on official channels. The new block will start with the new "Base Set" on September 26th, 2025.
This is how the blocks are displayed officially:

And how they should be, considering the new set shares the same card design/layout and "Pokémon ex" system as Scarlet & Violet:

This is what happened in Heart Gold / Soul Silver, a similar situation:

The New Set, Mega Evolution

The central theme of the new set and its main mechanics were announced on the 2025 Pokémon Day, including Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex.

The base set itself is a combination of two Japanese sets, Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia, which were named directly after Lucario's and Gardevoir's main attacks.

Mega Evolution: Card Review
The Mega Evolution mechanic has existed since 2015/2016, when it was first introduced in the X/Y generation. However, the difference between those cards and the new cards is that the new cards don't need a "Spiritual Link" Trainer card to evolve without immediately passing your turn. You can just evolve your Pokémon like usual.
To keep the Prize cards race balanced, all Mega Evolutions give out 3 Prize cards when Knocked Out, similar to old mechanics like Pokémon TAG TEAM-GX, Pokémon VMax, and Pokémon VUnion from past blocks.
