Introduction

The new Pokémon TCG set, Perfect Order, is already out! It centers around Mega Evolutions, which were introduced in Gen VI, that is, the X/Y era.

We've already gone over each productlink outside website, so let's discuss the best cards in this set for competitive tournaments.

Best Pokémon in Perfect Order

Pokémon ex

5 - Yveltal ex

Basic Pokémon.

- Attack - Soul Destroyer (D)(D)(C): this attack knocks out all enemy Pokémon that have 50 HP or less.

- Attack - Dark Strike (D)(D)(C): this attack deals 210 damage. You can't use it again on the following turn.

This Pokémon is perfect as a "one-of" in Darkness decks. It's quite easy to get the energies you need to use its attacks with cards like Mega Gengar ex PFL 56 and Janine's Secret Art PRE 112.

Another card that goes really well with it is Marnie's Grimmsnarl ex DRI 136. You can use it as the main attacker in sniper strategies that also play Froslass TWM 53 to put more damage on the board. Yveltal ex can be a finisher in this case.

4 - Mega Zygarde ex

Basic Pokémon.

- Attack - Gaia Wave (G)(G): this attack deals 200 damage. On the following turn, this Pokémon takes 30 less damage from enemy attacks (after applying weakness and resistance).

- Attack - Nullifying Zero (G)(G)(G)(G)(G): for each enemy Pokémon in play, flip a coin. If it's heads, this attack deals 150 damage (don't apply weakness and resistance to the bench).

We've discussed Mega Zygarde and how we can play it in another articlelink outside website. For instance, you can play Mega Lucario ex MEG 77 with it.

Another energy support option for this Pokémon is Barbaracle. Its ability, Stone Arms, lets you attach one basic Fighting energy from your hand to any of your Fighting Pokémon.

3 - Mega Starmie ex

Stage 1 Pokémon. It evolves from Staryu.

- Attack - Jet Blow (W): this attack deals 120 damage plus 50 damage to one benched enemy Pokémon (don't apply weakness and resistance to the bench).

- Attack - Nebula Beam (C)(C)(C): this attack deals 210 damage and isn't affected by weakness, resistance, or any effects on the opponent's active Pokémon.

2 - Mega Clefable ex

Stage 1 Pokémon. It evolves from Clefairy.

- Ability - Luminous Wing: this Pokémon is immune to all abilities on enemy Pokémon.

- Attack - Shooting Moons (P)(P): this attack deals 120 damage. You may then discard up to 4 cards from your hand. For each card you discard, this attack will deal 40 extra damage.

This is an excellent addition to this archetype, particularly with Mega Diancie ex PFL 41 and Lillie's Clefairy ex JTG 56. Aromatisse can also be a great option, as it gets Basic Psychic Energy sv3pt5 207 for you.

1 - Meowth ex

Basic Pokémon.

- Ability - Last-Ditch Catch: when you play this Pokémon from your hand to your bench, you may get 1 Supporter from your deck, reveal it, and put it in your hand.

- Attack - Tuck Tail (C)(C)(C): this attack deals 60 damage, but you'll have to return it and all cards attached to it to your hand.

This is the best Pokémon ex you can get from Perfect Order products.

Its ability, Last-Ditch Catch, is similar to Lumineon V BRS 40, as it gets a Supporter for you. These two Pokémon will be great in the current Standard meta.

As for its attack, Tuck Tail, it's best used defensively to remove it from play and protect it from knockouts with a Boss' Orders, for instance.

All the decks in Standard will soon play at least one copy of this Pokémon, so consider investing in it!

Baby Pokémon

5 - Vivilion

Stage 2 Pokémon. It evolves from Binacle.

- Ability - Grand Wind: during your turn, you may use this ability. The opponent then has to shuffle their cards back to the bottom of their decks and draw 4 new cards.

- Attack - Blow Through (G): this attack deals 60 damage plus 60 extra damage if there is a Stadium in play.

It's a great choice in control options.

4 - Tyrantrum

Stage 2 Pokémon. It evolves from Tyrunt.

- Ability - Tyrannically Gutsy: if this Pokémon has any special energies attached, it gains 150 HP.

- Attack - Wreak Havoc (F)(C): this attack deals 160 damage and lets you flip coins until you get tails. For each heads you get, discard a card from the top of the opponent's deck.

If you enjoy mill decks, it's definitely useful, but you'll have to rely on coinflips.

3 - Barbaracle

Stage 1 Pokémon. It evolves from Binacle.

- Ability - Stone Arms: during your turn, you may use this ability. You may then attach one basic Fighting energy from your hand to one of your Fighting Pokémon.

- Attack - Hammer In (F)(F)(C): this attack deals 80 damage.

This is great energy support for Fighting strategies. The problem is that it usually needs a lot of space in every list because it is a Stage 1 Pokémon. A 3-3 proportion is usually safer because this archetype needs a lot of energies to work.

2 - Aromatisse

Image content of the Website

Stage 1 Pokémon. It evolves from Spritzee.

- Ability - Scent Collection: during your turn, you may look in your deck for 2 basic Psychic energies and put them in your hand.

- Attack - Draining Kiss (P)(C): this attack deals 50 damage and heals this Pokémon by 30 HP.

This Pokémon will support Mega Clefable ex, particularly so that you can use its attack, Shooting Moons.

1 - Serperior

Stage 2 Pokémon. It evolves from Servine.

- Attack - Regal Command (G): this attack deals 20 damage for each allied Pokémon in play.

- Attack - Solar Coiling (G)(G)(G): this attack deals 100 damage. If Rosa's Encouragement is in your discard pile, it deals 150 more damage.

It's one of the strongest cards in this set for decks centered around cheap or baby Pokémon.

Right now, Forest of Vitality MEG 117, which lets you evolve Grass Pokémon faster, is seeing a lot of play.

Furthermore, you can easily get the energies you need to use its attacks. Teal Mask Ogerpon ex PRE 12 and Energy Switch MEG 115, or Meganium MEG 10, for instance, are great ways to do it.

Rosa's Encouragement & Tarragon

- Rosa's Encouragement: you may only play this card if you have more Prize cards than your opponent. You may then attach 2 basic energies in the discard pile to one of your Stage 2 Pokémon in play.

This card can be decent with some stage 2 Mega Pokémon ex, like Mega Greninja ex, which will come in Chaos Rising.

Another interesting Pokémon that can take advantage of it is Cynthia's Garchomp ex DRI 104.

- Tarragon: recycle up to 4 Fighting Pokémon and/or basic energies from your discard pile and put them in your hand.

Every Fighting deck must play at least 1 copy of this card from now on because it's very versatile.

Poké Pad

Look in your deck for 1 Pokémon that doesn't have a rule box and put it in your hand. Then, shuffle your deck.

Once Nest Ball sv1 181 rotates out of the format, this card will replace it. It will be our main way to filter baby Pokémon.

Special Energies

Image content of the Website

From left to right:

Growing (G) Energy: the Grass Pokémon that has this card attached gets +20 HP.

Telepathic (P) Energy: if you play this energy from your hand to one of your Psychic Pokémon, you may get 2 basic Psychic Pokémon and put them on your bench. Then, you'll shuffle your deck.

Rocky (F) Energy: the Fighting Pokémon that has this energy attached is protected against effects on enemy attacks. Please note that any effects affecting it before you attach this energy will be removed, and damage isn't the same thing as an effect.

I highly recommend you get all of these special energies because they're quite efficient and their effects are great.

Growing (G) Energy can be quite helpful with Mega Venusaur ex MEG 3. This Pokémon will become quite resilient with it, particularly if you play 4 copies because then you'll give it over 80 extra HP. Instead of 380 HP, it will have 460 HP!

As for Telepathic (P) Energy, it will be excellent in the Psychic archetype as a way to get basic Pokémon alongside cards like Buddy Buddy Poffin and Poké Pad.

Finally, Rocky (F) Energy will be useful with Mega Lucario ex MEG 77, for instance.
