Introduction

Today, we'll discuss the best Spiritomb cards in Pokémon TCG. This Pokémon is known for being part of Cynthia's team and because of its type. Ghost/Dark Pokémon used to be incredibly strong in the VGC because this type combination is not naturally weak to anything.

There are many great Spiritomb in Pokémon TCG. It plays both support roles as a "sabotage" Pokémon and aggressive roles as an attacker.

Top 10 Best Spiritomb

10 - Spiritomb (Diamond/Pearl: Legends Awakened)

Let's start with this Diamond & Pearl Spiritomb. It stands out because of its ability, Cursed Breath, which is a sort of spread strategy: from the moment you play this Pokémon from your hand to your bench, you may put 1 damage counter on all Pokémon in play (yours and the opponent's) if they already have any damage counters!

9 - Spiritomb (Black/White: Legendary Treasures)

In the Black & White era, ACE SPECs cards were incredibly popular, just like they are in the Scarlet & Violet Standard format and the Mega Evolution Standard format.

And what does this Spiritomb LTR 87 have to do with it? Everything! It's basically the original Genesect SFA 40 because its ability disables ACE SPECs. The difference is that Genesect SFA 40 only disables enemy ACE SPECs if it has any tools attached. Spiritomb LTR 87 disables all ACE SPECs in play.

Its attack, Hexed Mirror, renews your hand. It lets you shuffle it back into your deck and draw new cards according to how many cards the opponent has. It's interesting as well.

8 - Spiritomb (X/Y: Phantom Forces)

This Pokémon stands out because of its attack, B Cancel, which prevents opponents from evolving their Pokémon in the following turn.

It's an excellent choice for the Expanded format, particularly in control decks.

7 - Spiritomb (Sun/Moon: Ultra Prism)

This Spiritomb UPR 53 from Sun & Moon became popular because it was included in the Match Strike theme deck. This deck centered around Garchomp UPR 99 and Cynthia UPR 119.

Spiritomb UPR 53 is clearly a support/sabotage Pokémon. Its first attack, Lightless World, recycles 2 Supporters from the discard pile and puts them in your hand.

As for its attack, Terrify, it prevents basic enemy Pokémon from attacking on the following turn. It's an interesting control Pokémon.

6 - Spiritomb (Scarlet/Violet: Paldea Evolved)

This Pokémon was quite popular in Scarlet & Violet's Standard format at first. Its ability disables abilities on Pokémon V. This was great because part of the Sword & Shield block was still available in the format then, like Lumineon V BRS 40, for instance, which was quite dominant.

Spiritomb sv1 129, from the Scarlet & Violet block, is only decent in Expanded because of its second attack, Doom Decree.

First, you can easily get the energies you need to use it with Weavile-GX UNM 132 or Toxtricity PFL 68.

Secondly, to make Doom Decree work, you need to hit heads on two coin flips. If you manage to do that, you'll instantly K.O. a Pokémon. To make sure you can do that, you can use Glimwood Tangle DAA 162 and Victini GRI 10.

Because all of these cards are available in Expanded, Doom Decree is quite efficient there.

4 - Spiritomb (Sword/Shield: Lost Origin)

In the Sword & Shield era, Spiritomb LOR 117 saw play with Ditto PGO 53 from Pokémon Go. Its ability lets you reuse attacks on basic Pokémon that don't have a Rule box and that are in your discard pile. As such, we could play 4 copies of Spiritomb LOR 117 with Ditto and deal 240 damage with its attack.

Furthermore, its ability, Cursed Message, is excellent. If Spiritomb is knocked out, you can get any card from your deck, so it's an excellent way to get resources.

It is still great in Expanded, even after it became weak in Standard.

3 - Spiritomb (Sun/Moon: Shining Legends)

If you enjoy control decks in Expanded, this Pokémon is perfect.

Its ability simply "disables" the opponent's active Pokémon, as it doesn't let them retreat it (as long as Spiritomb is your active Pokémon). Your opponent will have to spend resources to do it, like Switch.

Furthermore, its main attack is a spread strategy. It lets you put 3 damage counters on enemy Pokémon however you like. So, you can use it with cards like Mega Absol ex MEG 86 and Yveltal-GX FLI 79 to set up combos.

2 - Spiritomb (Sun/Moon: Unbroken Bonds)

This is one of the best Spiritomb in the game. It saw a lot of play in Sun & Moon Standard tournaments as a rogue deck and became quite popular then.

Its ability, Building Spite, lets you put 1 damage counter on it. It makes sense with its main attack, Anguish Cry, which deals 10 + 30 damage for each damage counter on Spiritomb UNB 112.

At the time, we used Hustle Belt CES 134 to deal more damage with it. We also used Shrine of Punishment CES 143 because it was quite powerful against Pokémon TAG TEAM-GX.

In Expanded, the sky is the limit. We can play this Pokémon with cards like Hero's Cape TEF 152, Luxurious Cape sv4 166, Fighting Fury Belt BKP 99, and Bravery Charm sv2 173. They all buff Spiritomb's HP, so they're great with it.

1 - Spiritomb (Diamond/Pearl: Arceus)

Our best Spiritomb is Spiritomb AR 32, which was quite popular in Diamond & Pearl's Standard format.

Its ability prevents both players from using trainers, so we can't use supporters, stadiums, items, or tools. We have to do it all manually. This often catches opponents off-guard: you'll build your list to deal with this drawback, but they won't be able to do anything about it.

Its first attack, Darkness Grace, lets you get 1 evolution Pokémon to evolve your Pokémon in play and play it right afterward if you also put a damage counter on Spiritomb. Because it doesn't cost anything, we can attach energies to other Pokémon to cover our bases for when Spiritomb is knocked out.

It's a pity we can't use it in Expanded.

Honorable Mentions

Cynthia's Spiritomb (Scarlet/Violet: Destined Rivals)

This card from the last Scarlet & Violet base set, Destined Rivals, focuses on "Trainer's Partner" mechanics.

It is directly tied to Cynthia and is a single prize attacker in this archetype. It deals damage according to all damage counters on Cynthia's Pokémon on your bench.

The idea is to set up Cynthia's Garchomp ex DRI 104 with 10 HP and deal 320 damage with Cynthia's Spiritomb DRI 129.

We could also use Cynthia's Power Weight DRI 162 on Cynthia's Garchomp ex DRI 104 at the time to give it an extra 70 HP. It would have 400 HP this way, and Cynthia's Spiritomb DRI 129 would deal 390 damage if Garchomp had 10 HP!
