Introduction

Today, we'll go over one of the most popular Kanto Pokémon: Arcanine!

Let's see the most expensive Arcanine in Pokémon TCG!

Top 10 Most Expensive Arcanine

10 - Arcanine (Black/White: Next Destinies - Pre Release Promo - 12/99)

This card was given out at a pre-release event. Its attack was quite consistent (it deals 100 damage, which, at the time, was quite strong against baby Pokémon), and its ability was quite decent as well. It states, "If Arcanine takes damage from enemy attacks, the opponent's active Pokémon is now "Burned", even if Arcanine is knocked out."

In pre-release events, as we all know, all players get pre-built kits and a theme deck for that particular set and have to build a strategy with these tools. This Arcanine was quite decent when it was released and given out.

Price: US$50.99.

9 - Arcanine (e-Cards Series: Skyridge - Holo Foil - 3/144)

This set, the e-Cards set, is very different when it comes to holo effects and reverse foil effects. This is what the card above looks like:

It is in Italian, but you can see its rarity really well. Keep in mind, though, we're considering the English versions for this ranking.

The Poké-Ball in the bottom left corner is blue, and the entire card is holo (like the most recent reverse foil cards). This is different from the other holo foil cards back then, as they were a rarity of their own.

Its ability, in turn, was interesting. When you evolve this Pokémon from your hand on your turn, you may flip 3 coins. For each "heads" you get, you may attach one basic Fire energy in your discard pile to Arcanine.

Price: US$55.

8 - Arcanine (e-Cards Series: Skyridge - Holo Foil - H02/H32)

Once again, we have a unique holo foil card from the e-Cards set, with all the peculiarities of its time. This card is the 02/32 holo foil card in this set, so it is only the 2nd holo foil.

The difference is that the Poké-Ball in the bottom left corner is golden instead of blue.

Price: US$101.31.

7 - Arcanine (Wizards of the Coast Era: Legendary Collector - Reverse Foil - 36/110)

This "special set" was released in the Wizards of the Coast era and contained mostly reprints of important cards in the base set. These reprints were reverse foil and featured a sort of glitter to mimick a "fireworks" effect. This is what makes them so valuable.

Price: US$164.92.

6 - Arcanine (Black/White: Next Destinies - Pre Release Staff Promo - 12/99)

This is basically our 10th most expensive Arcanine, but it has the Staff logo, which means it was only given out to staff. That's what makes it so valuable.

Price: US$230.

5 - Light Arcanine (Wizards of the Coast Era: Neo Destiny - 1st Edition, Unlimited Foil - 001/132)

This was one of the "Light Pokémon", counterparts to "Dark Pokémon", that were released in this set. These Dark Pokémon were supposed to be "evil" because of Team Rocket's training.

Its ability, Drive Off, was incredible at the time because it is a sort of "Boss's Orders", as it forces the opponent to swap a Pokémon on their bench with their active Pokémon.

Its main attack reinforces how honorable and gentlemanly this Light Arcanine is. It deals less damage to baby Pokémon (Pichu, Magby, Smoochum, Elekid, Cleffa, Igglypuff) and more damage to basic and evolution Pokémon.

Price: US$300.

4 - Arcanine (e-Cards Series: Aquapolis - Holo Foil - H02/H32)

This Arcanine is also from the e-Cards set and was drawn by Kyoko Umemoto, a pretty old name in the industry. They are working for the Pokémon Company to this day and have created artworks for recent sets and other products.

The most interesting thing about it is its ability. It lets you retreat it for less energies according to how many energies are attached to it.

Like our 8th most expensive Arcanine, it is an Aquapolis holo foil.

Price: US$329.84.

3 - Blaine's Arcanine (Wizards of the Coast Era: Gym Challenge - 1st Edition, Foil - 001/132)

Our 3rd most expensive Arcanine features the "Trainer's Partner" mechanic as well as the Cinnabar Gym leader Blaine.

Price: US$353.40.

2 - Arcanine ex (Ruby/Sapphire: Legend Maker - 83/92)

Our 2nd most expensive Arcanine is a variant of one of the classic Pokémon ex in the Ruby & Sapphire block.

The most interesting thing about it at the time was its ability. It lets you remove any special conditions on this Pokémon when you attach a Fire energy to it.

Price: US$400.

1 - Arcanine (Japanese Promo Cards - Squirtle Deck & Pokémon Web Promo - 38/???)

Our most expensive Arcanine is quite niche. Those who know about it are usually really fanatic Arcanine fans that really look into it and do their research!

It was only printed in Japan in a specific set called the Intro Pack that was supposed to be a step-by-step guide on how to play Pokémon TCG and came with a VHS tape. This set included cards from Vending Machine (another exclusive Japanese set) and the Expansion Pack (the Wizards of the Coast base set).

There is also a version with an e-Card frame that is as rare and expensive as the one above.

Price: US$420.
