About
Neo Genesis, released in 2000 as the first expansion of the second generation of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, introduced players to the Johto region and the beloved Generation II Pokémon such as Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, and the legendary Lugia. The set’s lore centers on discovery and growth in a new region, reflecting the themes of Pokémon Gold and Silver, with fresh evolutions and mysterious Legendary Pokémon shaping the world’s balance. Mechanically, Neo Genesis brought major innovations to the game, including the introduction of Darkness and Metal as new Energy types, each with unique strategic effects that altered damage and defense calculations. It also debuted Baby Pokémon like Pichu and Cleffa, which had special Baby Rules that made them harder to attack, adding a new tactical layer. Additionally, the set expanded the use of Pokémon Powers, allowing for more dynamic abilities beyond standard attacks, ultimately marking a significant evolution in competitive play and game design.
