Introduction

Greetings! Today, we'll take a look at the prettiest and ugliest cards in Mega Shine, the new Pokémon Pocket set. We know everyone has their own opinion and that all the artists that worked on these cards worked very hard, but we'll still give you our review!

Pokémon Pocket - Mega Shine: The Prettiest Cards

Art Rare Miltank

Image content of the Website

This card isn't great, but it is gorgeous and quite pleasant because of the farm background and aesthetic. A cow on a farm. Eating farm goods (made with its own milk). Cute.

Shiny Zoroark

Image content of the Website

This Pokémon is very popular, and this card is cute and dynamic. It also uses a great color palette. I'd frame it and hang it over my living room or something.

Uncommon Grumpig

Image content of the Website

This art shows Grumpig dancing on a stage as people holding spoons (a reference to the fact it is a Psychic Pokémon) cheer it on. It's one of the most fun artworks in this set, represents this Pokémon's personality perfectly, and tells a very fun story. Love it.

Shiny Super Rare Mega Charizard X ex

Image content of the Website

This shiny Mega Charizard X ex is quite cool. The artwork is also a bit "cleaner" than other Super Rare Charizards in this set, and this is one of the most popular Pokémon in the franchise. Finally, it's one of the strongest Pokémon in Mega Shine as well.

I didn't like the colors all that much, the greyish greenish black. It could just be my eyes, but it's still gorgeous!

Super Rare Iris

Image content of the Website

This is not the best supporter in this set, or even good overall, but she's pretty! The pastel colors really match this character, and her all happy and moving around makes sense. I'd also frame it and hang it on my wall.

Immersive Rare Mew

Image content of the Website

I thought this pose was a bit weird for Mew, but it does give off a peace and serenity that fit it pretty well. The colors are quite pleasant, and the background is quite cool. Its eyes are pretty cute.

Finally, its attack is pretty interesting, so it could see play in some decks.

Double Rare Mega Charizard X ex

Image content of the Website

I really enjoyed this Mega Charizard X ex because it's "cleaner". The pose, attacking with flames around, is quite cool, and the card is easy to read. It's also great in the current meta.

This is the card everyone is happy to see in their boosters.

Shiny Super Rare Mega Gengar ex

Image content of the Website

This shiny Mega Gengar is quite cool! It is quite difficult to use because its attack is quite expensive (though it is good), but Gengar is one of the most popular Pokémon in the franchise. It always gets a pretty version whenever a new set comes out, and we're always happy to see it.

Super Rare Calem

Image content of the Website

In my opinion, this Calem is the best card in the set. And this full art is quite decent, with greyish tones that fit his clothes. The pose is great as well. Many players will be pulling for him!

Art Rare Lapras

Image content of the Website

This Lapras looking at us, the viewers, all curious and excited, is the cutest thing! The other small Lapras behind it are also cute.

This artwork captured the curious essence of this classic Pokémon, put it over a background full of light coming in through the surface of the water, added a few other Water Pokémon, and made it a real depiction of Lapras' day-to-day life. I love it. I'd frame it.

Common Dratini, Dragonair, and Dragonite

Image content of the Website

Dragonair is one of the best baby Pokémon in this set. Its attack helps you set up and get Dragonite in play, which is also one of the best baby Pokémon in this set.

These 3 artworks complement each other really well. They feature these Pokémon on a tree and in their day-to-day life, and we can almost imagine them interacting with each other. They are some of the prettiest and liveliest cards in this set.

Mega Shine Artworks I Didn't Like

Art Rare Empoleon

Image content of the Website

This artwork was probably supposed to be cute and lively... Maybe.

The question is, I took a long time to find Empoleon's head. Seriously. To me, it seems too small or bad-positioned, and that makes this artwork extremely weird. It's like something is missing.

Shiny Ponyta and Rapidash

Image content of the Website

What I didn't like about these cards is that the colors are sort of muted, particularly when it comes to Ponyta. The flames should be livelier, more colorful, more striking. Rapidash is sort of better because its colors are sort of muted anyway...

Ponyta really made me sad. Even more so because it is the first shiny that shows up in Pokémon Arceus, and it is so fun and happy.

Here is what they look like in Pokémon Go:

Special Art Rare Mega Manectric ex

Image content of the Website

Manectric's pose shows its speed and power, and it's quite nice. It's similar to another Manectric card, but the overall look, which was supposed to make it feel even more agile and dynamic, ended up too exaggerated in my eyes.

It became a weird blurry thing, and we can't really understand what is happening. We can't see its paws, the background, nothing. I know the idea was probably to do that anyway because it's a fast Pokémon, but it ended up weird.

Rare Mew

Image content of the Website

Mew is the cutest thing, the prettiest Pokémon in the world. But this artwork made it a bit off, with all of the light details. We can't really see what is what.

Immersive Rare Mew

Image content of the Website

The overall artwork is pretty? Yes. We can see the Pokémon, it is cute and peaceful.

My only criticism is the pose. It... is a little weird. I don't know why, but it makes me a bit upset, like those comic book covers that show the female protagonist in weird poses, often distorted, to make her... more pleasant.

And Mew is a Pokémon. It is shown in a pose that makes it seem like a cat showing its butt, you know? I don't know if that was on purpose, but I found it a little weird.
