Shrouded Fable: Understanding the Set

This special set was based on the Japanese set ”Night Wanderer” (originally 強化拡張パック ナイトワンダラー), released in Japan on July 7th, 2024.

This new set was inspired by "The Teal Mask/The Indigo Disk" VGC DLCs, and brings the iconic trio of mythic Pokémon known as The Heroes of Kitakami, or The Loyal Three. These three Pokémon were secretly led by another Pokémon, Pecharunt, and were actually three villains that lied about their deeds, and put the blame on Ogerpon, which was widely considered the villain in their place. Ogerpon, on the other side, was the main character in the Twilight Masquerade set.

Image content of the Website

Just like past sets (Temporal Forces and Twilight Masquerade), this one includes ACE SPEC cards, special cards with unique effects. You can learn more about this mechanic herelink outside website.

As this set will be released on August 2nd, 2024, it might be legal at the 2024 World Championships, held in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 16th, 17th, and 18th!

The Loyal Three and Pecharunt: The Main Pokémon in this Set

From left to right:

Image content of the Website

Okidogi ex:

Basic Pokémon.

Poison Muscles (C): Search your deck for two basic Darkness Energy CRZ 158 and attach them to this Pokémon. Then, shuffle your deck. If you attached Energy to this Pokémon in this way, this Pokémon is now Poisoned.

Crazy Chain (D)(D)(C): deal 130 base damage plus an extra 130 damage if Okidogi ex is Poisoned.

Image content of the Website

Munkidori ex:

Basic Pokémon.

Ability - Anticlimax: If you have Pecharunt ex in play, and if this Pokémon (Munkidori ex) is Knocked Out by damage from an attack from your opponent's Pokémon, your opponent takes 1 fewer Prize card.

Dirty Headbutt (D)(D)(C): deals 190 damage. This Pokémon can't use Dirty Headbutt next turn.

Image content of the Website

Fezandipiti ex:

Basic Pokémon.

Ability - Turning the Tables: Once during your turn, if any of your Pokémon were Knocked Out during your opponent's last turn, you may draw 3 cards. You can't use more than 1 Turning the Tables Ability each turn.

Cruel Arrow (C)(C)(C): This attack does 100 damage to 1 of your opponent's Pokémon. (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.)

Pecharunt ex:

Basic Pokémon.

Ability - Subjugating Chains: Once during your turn, you may switch 1 of your Benched Darkness Pokémon, except any Pecharunt ex, with your Active Pokémon. If you do, the new Active Pokémon is now Poisoned. You can't use more than 1 Subjugating Chains each turn.

Irritating Burst (D)(D): deals 60 damage for each Prize card your opponent has taken.

Other Pokémon ex in this Set

Kingdra ex

Loading icon

Stage 2 Pokémon. Evolves from Seadra.

- King’s Orders (W): Put up to 3 Water Pokémon from your discard pile onto your Bench.

- Hydro Pump (C)(C): deals 50 base damage plus 50 damage for each Basic Water Energy sv2 279 attached to Kingdra ex sv6a 12.

This Pokémon has gone by unnoticed by most players, but has a lot of potential. If you would like to learn more about possible "sniper" decks you can build with this Kingdra ex as a recursive Pokémon, click herelink outside website.

Revavroom ex

Image content of the Website

Stage 1 Pokémon. Evolves from Varoom.

- Flash Acceleration (M): This attack deals 20 base damage. If this Pokémon moved from your Bench to the Active Spot this turn, this attack does 120 more damage.

Ad

- Speed Break (M)(M)(M): deals 250 damage. Discard this Pokémon and all attached cards.

This Pokémon is a "glass cannon". As a tech card against Lugia VSTAR SIT 139, it is quite interesting, and it is also effective against Water Pokémon, because of its first attack. Furthermore, it only costs 1 energy to retreat, so it's easy to deal double the damage, 280, with it!

To set up the energies you need for its second attack, I recommend Metang PR-SV 90 or Magnezone PR-SW SWSH208.

"Baby" Pokémon

Decidueye

Image content of the Website

Stage 2 Pokémon. It evolves from Dartrix.

- Feather Stock (C): Draw cards until you have 7 cards in your hand.

- Strong Shot (G): This attack deals 170 damage, but you'll need to discard a Basic Grass Energy sv2 278. Otherwise, it doesn't do anything.

This Pokémon is excellent to draw cards, and deals a lot of damage with its second attack for just one energy. You can also easily get this energy from your deck with Earthen Vessel sv4 163.

Weavile

Image content of the Website

Stage 1 Pokémon. It evolves from Sneasel.

- Slash (W): This attack deals 40 damage.

- Hail Claw (W)(W): This attack deals 70 damage, and discards all energy attached to Weavile. If you do, your opponent's active Pokémon is now Paralyzed!

This is a great option for any control decks built around this special condition. It is similar to Articuno SIT 36, but without its "drawback".

It is also very easy to set it up with Irida ASR 147 and Baxcalibur PR-SV 19 in Standard.

Hypno

Image content of the Website

Stage 1 Pokémon. It evolves from Drowzee.

- Daydream (P)(C): deals 80 damage. During your opponent's next turn, if they attach an Energy card from their hand to the Defending Pokémon, their turn ends.

This Pokémon is incredible for anyone who likes control decks.

Duskull, Dusclops, & Dusknoir

Image content of the Website

From left to right, according to its evolution line:

Duskull:

- Meet Up (P): Put up to 3 Duskull from your discard pile onto your Bench.

- Mumbel (P)(P): deals 30 damage.

Dusclops:

- Ability - Cursed Bomb: Once during your turn, you may put 5 damage counters on 1 of your opponent's Pokémon. If you use this Ability, this Pokémon is Knocked Out.

- Will-O-Wisp (P)(P): deals 50 damage.

Dusknoir:

- Ability - Cursed Bomb: Once during your turn, you may put 13 damage counters on 1 of your opponent's Pokémon. If you use this Ability, this Pokémon is Knocked Out.

- Shadow Bind (P)(P)(C): deals 130 damage.

This is an excellent recursive Pokémon if you like damage counters. It will be great in decks like Froslass TWM 53 and will even make Kingambit sv3 150 knock out enemy Pokémon instantly with its first attack if your opponent has at least 4 damage counters.

Crobat

Image content of the Website

Stage 2 Pokémon. It evolves from Golbat.

- Ability - Shadow Messenger: Once during your turn, if you played Janine's Secret Technique from your hand during this turn, you may draw cards until you have 8 cards in your hand.

- Poison Fang (D)(C): This attack deals 120 damage. Your opponent's Active Pokémon is now Poisoned. During Pokémon Checkup, put 2 damage counters on that Pokémon instead of 1.

Zoroark

Image content of the Website

Stage 1 Pokémon. It evolves from Zorua.

- Phantom Jack (C)(C): This attack does 60 damage for each of your opponent's Pokémon ex and Pokémon V in play.

- Claw Slash (D)(C)(C): This attack deals 110 damage.

Yveltal

Image content of the Website

Basic Pokémon.

- Gnawing Winds (D): Put 2 damage counters on each of your opponent's Pokémon that has any damage counters on it!

- Destruction Beam (D)(D)(C): This attack deals 100 damage. Flip a coin. If heads, discard an Energy from your opponent's Active Pokémon.

Genesect

Image content of the Website

Basic Pokémon.

- Ability - ACE Canceler: If this Pokémon has a Pokémon Tool attached, your opponent can't play any ACE SPEC cards from their hand!

- Magnetic Blast (M)(C)(C): This attack deals 100 damage.

This Pokémon will be excellent to sabotage opponents in general, as they won't be able to play their ACE SPEC card when they need to.

Haxorus

Image content of the Website

Stage 2 Pokémon. It evolves from Fraxure.

- Axe Down (F): If your opponent's Active Pokémon has any Special Energy attached, it is Knocked Out automatically.

- Dragon Pulse (F)(M): This attack deals 230 damage. Discard the top 3 cards of your deck.

Kyurem

Image content of the Website

Basic Pokémon.

- Ability - Anti-Plasma: If your opponent has any cards in their discard pile that have "Colress" in the name, Kyurem can use the Trifrost attack for just one colorless (C) energy!

- Trifrost (W)(W)(M)(M)(C): Discard all Energy from this Pokémon. This attack does 110 damage to 3 of your opponent's Pokémon. (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.)

Trainer: Supporter

Image content of the Website

From left to right:

1) Cassiopeia - Supporter: You can use this card only when it is the last card in your hand. Search your deck for up to 2 cards and put them into your hand. Then, shuffle your deck.

2) Janine’s Secret Technique - Supporter: Choose up to 2 of your Darkness Pokémon. For each of those Pokémon, search your deck for a Basic Darkness Energy sve 7 and attach it to that Pokémon. Then, shuffle your deck. If you attached any Energy to your Active Pokémon in this way, that Pokémon is now Poisoned.

3) Colress’s Tenacity - Supporter: Search your deck for a Stadium card and an Energy card (this description doesn't mention if they have to be basic or special, so both are valid), reveal them, and put them into your hand. Then, shuffle your deck.

4) Xerosic’s Plan - Supporter: Your opponent discards cards from their hand until they have 3 cards in their hand.
