Hello, everyone.

I am Rodrigo, and I'm here to bring you an update on what is coming in 2026 with the latest news on the upcoming sets!

Ninja Spinner / Chaos Rising

In Japan, the Ninja Spinner set was released on March 13, 2026. We already have an official date for the Western version, Chaos Rising, which will arrive for us on May 22, 2026!

The most anticipated addition to the expansion is Mega Greninja ex, the mascot of the set. This card revives elements from its predecessors, including mechanics and abilities from the X/Y era back in 2016.

- Deadly Shuriken Ability: During your turn, if Mega Greninja ex is your Active Pokémon, you may discard 1 Basic Water Energy from your hand to use this effect. If you do, place 6 damage counters on 1 of your opponent's Pokémon.

- Ninja Spinner: Deals 120 damage. It has an additional effect that allows you to return 1 Basic Water Energy attached to Mega Greninja ex to your hand. If you do, this attack deals 80 more damage.

As previously mentioned, Mega Greninja ex combines various mechanics and strategies from its X/Y ancestors:

Another highlight is the arrival of new Special Energy cards. These follow the same logic as the X/Y era and succeed the Mega Evolution: Perfect Order series with these new types: Nitro (R) Energy, Bubble (W) Energy, and Magnet (M) Energy.

- Nitro (R) Energy: For Fire-type Pokémon with this energy attached, attacks that require discarding energy will cause this Special Energy to return to your hand instead of being discarded normally.

- Bubble (W) Energy: The Water-type Pokémon this is attached to will be immune to Special Conditions. It also removes any existing conditions the moment this energy is attached.

- Magnet (M) Energy: Any Metal-type Pokémon equipped with this card will have zero Retreat Cost.

I will soon be back on Cards Realm to discuss the cards in this expansion and which ones will perform best in the meta in more detail.

The Japanese set is expected to release on May 22, 2026. The main focus will be Mega Darkrai ex.

Storm Emerald

The Japanese expansion is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026.

This new set alludes to the Japanese name of the X/Y expansion that debuted Mega Rayquaza: Emerald Break.

Now, questions remain regarding how this Rayquaza will function:

1) Will this Mega Rayquaza ex be a version similar to the Colorless Mega Rayquaza EX that used the Sky Field ROS 89 Stadium combo to expand Bench space and deal more damage based on the number of Pokémon in play?

2) Will it be a version similar to the Dragon-type Mega Rayquaza EX that followed the mold of its ancestor?

3) Or will Mega Rayquaza ex feature mechanics more aligned with its EX version from Black & White: Dragon Exalted, specifically regarding the Dragon Burst attack?

In my opinion, The Pokémon Company will likely create something similar to the Rayquaza-EX DRX 85 option as the mechanical foundation for the Mega Form:

1) Since Rayquaza-EX DRX 85 utilized Eelektrik NVI 40 with the Dynamotor ability as support during the Black & White era, it is very likely that The Pokémon Company will recycle the same mechanic.

And guess who appeared in the Scarlet & Violet: Black Bolt & White Flare expansion as support? Exactly...

2) It is worth remembering that in Sword & Shield: Evolving Skies, this concept was repeated with Rayquaza VMAX EVS 111 and Flaaffy EVS 55.

3) Another Pokémon that suggests an alternative energy acceleration for Mega Rayquaza, should it adopt Fire and Lightning energies to meet attack costs, is Emboar WHT 13 (also from Black Bolt & White Flare) with the Inferno Fandango ability. This acts essentially as a Rain Dance for Fire energy.

If the set follows this path, we could also see the use of Energy Recycler DRI 164 as a resource to recycle discarded energies.

Hadoushīkā / Aura Seeker

The Hadoushīkā, or Aura Seeker expansion, will focus on Mega Lucario Z, based on the new alternative form introduced in the game Pokémon Legends: Z-A. There is speculation that it will be released in September in Japan, arriving in the West around October or November 2026.

Until next time!
