Introduction

Today, we'll discuss the best Scizor in Pokémon TCG, since the Wizards of the Coast era until today.

Top 10 Best Scizor of All Time

10 - Scizor (Sun/Moon: Lost Thunder)

Its ability, Exoskeleton, states: "This Pokémon takes 30 less damage from attacks (after applying Weakness and Resistance).". You can complement it with tools like Metal Frying Pan FLI 112, which protects it against another 30 extra damage and also gives it immunity against weakness damage.

Its attack, Special Blow, deals 60 damage plus 70 damage if your opponent is using any special energies. It is a very specific condition, so this Pokémon only deserved our 10th spot.

9 - Scizor (Sword/Shield: Crown Zenith)

Its attack, Dangerous Claw, stands out because it deals 80 damage plus 80 extra damage if the opponent's active Pokémon is a basic Pokémon.

In Expanded, you can easily get the energies you need to use this attack with Triple Acceleration Energy UNB 190, and even Reversal Energy sv2 192, if you're behind in Prize cards.

8 - Scizor (Sword/Shield: Rebel Clash)

Its attack, Raid, is very efficient : if you evolve Scizor from Scyther on the turn you put it in play, this attack deals 30 damage plus 90 extra damage, so, a total of 120 damage. If you use Supereffective Glasses ASR 152 against an opponent that is weak to the Metal archetype, you can deal up to 360 damage!

Its second attack, Guard Claw, deals 90 damage and states, "During your opponent's next turn, this Pokémon takes 30 less damage from attacks (after applying Weakness and Resistance).". There are many tools you can use to protect it even more, like Metal Core Barrier UNB 180, which blocks 70 damage, and Metal Frying Pan FLI 112, which blocks 30 damage and protects it against weakness damage.

7 - Scizor (Scarlet/Violet: Obsidian Flames)

Its attack, Punishing Scissors, stands out because it scales according to how many enemy Pokémon have abilities. It can deal 10 + 300 damage in total.

In Standard, from 2023 to 2025, this card will be an excellent option for more accessible "rogue" decks that are still quite efficient and deal a lot of damage.

6 - Scizor "Prime" (Heart Gold/Soul Silver: Undaunted)

Its ability, Red Armor, protects this Pokémon from damage dealt by enemy Pokémon that have any energies attached. Its attack, Metal Scissors, is quite simple, but efficient: it deals more damage according to how many Metal energies are attached to Scizor.

Unfortunately, you can only use this card in the Legacy format.

5 - Rocket's Scizor (Ruby/Sapphire: Team Rocket Returns)

What's interesting about this Pokémon is that you can only evolve it with Rocket's Scyther ex TRR 102. This was a small but cool detail, as it shows this Pokémon was trained by Rocket.

Its ability, Dual Armor, gives it the Metal and Darkness archetype when you attach a Metal Energy EM 88 to it. The energies we used at the time, Darkness Energy and Metal Energy, let you deal more damage and prevent enemy damage, respectively. You can put up to four copies of these energies in play, and their effects stack!

4 - Scizor ex (Scarlet/Violet: Temporal Forces)

Scizor ex, the most recent card in this article, has already popped up in a few Standard lists, but it actually shines way more in Expanded because of cards like Magnezone UPR 83. With them, you'll easily get the energies you need to use it.

Its attack, Steel Wing, reminds me of Guard Claw, an attack featured in other versions, as both deal 70 damage and block 50 damage from the next enemy attack. As for Cross Breakers, it lets you discard up to two Metal energy and deal 120 damage for each one. So, you can deal up to 240 damage with it.

In Standard, we have very dynamic energy support Pokémon, like Metang PR-SV 90 and Magnezone PR-SW SWSH208. Both let you look at the top cards in your deck and get as many Metal energies you find over there as you like.

In Expanded, as we mentioned before, you'll use Magnezone UPR 83's ability to attach the Metal energies from your hand to your Pokémon, and it is quite consistent!

3 - Scizor V & Scizor VMax (Sword/Shield: Darkness Ablaze)

These two Pokémon complement each other, so we gave both of them a place in our 3rd spot.

Scizor V's attack, Hack Off, lets you discard one special energy and a tool from your opponent. Scizor VMax's attack, Hard Scissors, deals 90 damage and blocks 30 damage from the next enemy attack.

If you want to reuse Scizor V's attacks after you evolve it into its VMax version, you can use Memory Energy LOT 194 and Memory Capsule VIV 155.

2 - Mega Scizor-EX (X/Y: BREAKPoint)

This Pokémon has one of the best attacks in this entire list: Iron Crusher lets you discard one special energy or stadium in play, and also deals a reasonable amount of damage.

The challenge is evolving it into its Mega form, which immediately ends your turn unless you use Scizor Spirit Link BKP 111.

1 - Scizor-GX (Sun/Moon: Celestial Storm)

Out of all the Scizors, this one stands out because of its ability, Danger Perception, which deals an extra 80 damage if Scizor-GX has 100 HP or less. Its attack, Steel Wing, deals 80 damage and blocks 30 damage from the next enemy attack. It can deal up to 180 damage in emergencies.

As for its GX attack, Cross-Cut, it deals 100 damage, but can deal up to 280 damage if the enemy Pokémon is an evolution Pokémon, and Scizor-GX is damaged.

It was inspired by its Ruby/Sapphire: Unseen Forces's ex version:

Honorable Mentions

Scizor (Wizards of the Coast Era: Promo Card - Black Star)

Its attack, Leer, protects it from enemy attacks on the next turn if you hit "heads". Its other attack, Metal Pincer, deals 30 damage for each "heads" you get on coin tosses, so it deals a good amount of damage if you're lucky.
