While the self-inflicted damage can be a drawback, the flexibility of providing any type of basic energy can be advantageous in a deck with diverse energy requirements. However, there are potentially better options like Multi Energy or Double Colorless Energy that provide multiple energy at once without the drawback of self-damage, making Rainbow Energy TR 17 a situational choice that may not see widespread play in competitive decks.
