IntroductionIn this article, we'll discuss Lurantis ex me05 004, from Pitch Black! Its first attack is our main star: if this Pokémon heals in any way during the turn, it deals 260 damage for just 1 energy!Lurantis ex in ExpandedDecklistLurantis ex: Main AttackerIts attack, Lively Cutter, states, "If this Pokémon is healed during this turn, this attack deals 60 + 200 damage," that is, 260 damage for just 1 energy.Setting this up won't be a problem at all. All you have to do is use cards like Cheryl BST 123, Max Potion GRI 128, and Radiant Tsareena swsh12 016.As for its second attack, Leaf Guard, it is more defensive: it deals 140 damage and protects this Pokémon from 50 damage (dealt by enemy attacks) in the following turn.Lurantis CombosHealing Combo: Lurantis & CherylAs you can see, Cheryl only heals evolution Pokémon, and you'll also have to discard all energies attached to the Pokémon you heal with her. However, this won't be an issue because you can easily get them back with Energy Recycler DRI 164.If you lose Cheryl BST 123 as well, don't worry: you can also play Pal Pad SSH 172 or VS Seeker PHF 109 to recycle her.Healing Combo: Lurantis & Max PotionThis combo is similar to the Cheryl BST 123 combo, but the difference is that you can use Max Potion GRI 128 as many times as you want on your turn because it's an Item. So, you can use another Supporter that turn as well.Healing Combo: Lurantis & Life ForestThis Stadium also enables Lurantis' first attack, as it heals it by 60 HP.Healing Combo: Lurantis & Radiant TsareenaRadiant Tsareena swsh12 016 enables Lurantis' first attack because of its healing ability, Elegant Heal.Recursive PokémonBaby PokémonBudew PRE 4 sabotages the opponent. Its attack prevents them from using Items on their turn.Bibarel BRS 121's ability, Industrious Incisors, lets you draw until you have 5 cards in hand.Cherrim UPR 11's ability, Weather Guard, states that your Grass Pokémon don't have any weaknesses anymore, so you won't struggle with Fire Pokémon if you play this card!Lurantis PR-SM SM25's ability, Sunny Day, makes your Grass Pokémon deal 20 extra damage to the opponent's active Pokémon (before applying weakness or resistance).TrainersSupportersLillie's Determination MEG 119 lets you shuffle your hand back into your deck and then draw 6 cards. If you have exactly 6 Prize cards left, you'll draw 8 cards instead.Cheryl BST 123 heals your evolution Pokémon completely if you discard all energies attached to them.Cyllene ASR 138 recycles 2 cards in the discard pile back into your deck, at the very top. But you can only use this card if you flip two coins and get heads. For each head, you'll recycle one card.Boss's Orders me02.5 183 pulls an enemy benched Pokémon into the active spot. You should use it to knock out any problematic Pokémon in your way.Guzma BUS 115 swaps Pokémon. After you play this card, you'll pick one benched enemy Pokémon and pull it to the active spot. Then, you'll do the same with one of your benched Pokémon.ItemsItems to Get PokémonBuddy-Buddy Poffin TEF 144 lets you look for 2 basic Pokémon with up to 70 HP in your deck and put them on your bench.Bug Catching Set sv06 143 lets you look at the top 7 cards in your deck and get any 2 Grass Pokémon (basic or evolution) and/or basic Grass energies.Item to HealThis card heals a Pokémon completely, but it also forces you to discard all energies attached to it.Items to Recycle CardsVS Seeker PHF 109 is the most important Item out of this group because it recycles 1 Supporter from your discard pile and puts it directly in your hand.Pal Pad SSH 172 recycles up to 2 Supporters from the discard pile back into your deck.Energy Recycler DRI 164 recycles up to 5 basic energies from the discard pile back into your deck.Sacred Ash DRI 168 recycles up to 5 Pokémon from the discard pile back into your deck.Ordinary Rod SSH 171 offers you two effects:- You may pick 2 Pokémon in the discard pile and recycle them back into your deck.And/or- You may pick 2 basic energies from the discard pile and recycle them back into your deck.ToolsSupereffective Glasses ASR 152 triples the damage Lurantis ex me05 004 deals through weakness. Instead of 260 damage, this card makes it deal an impressive 780 damage!Float Stone PLF 99 lets you retreat the Pokémon it is attached to for free. It's very useful on Bibarel BRS 121 and Radiant Tsareena swsh12 016.StadiumsForest of Vitality me01 117 lets you evolve your Grass Pokémon in play and skip ahead one evolution once per turn (which breaks the traditional TCG rules that state you may only evolve your Pokémon gradually, once per turn). You can't use this effect on your first turn.In other words, if, in the mid-game, you already have a Fomantis me05 003 and a Cherubi BRS 12 in play and their evolutions in hand, this Stadium will let you evolve them immediately!Life Forest ◇ LOT 180, a Prism Star Stadium, heals one of your Grass Pokémon by 60 HP. It also removes any special conditions on it.ACE SPECThis card is an Item ACE SPEC. To use it, you'll have to discard 3 cards from your hand, but, if so, you may then get 1 Supporter, 1 Item, 1 Tool, and 1 Stadium.Other ACE SPECSYou may replace Secret Box for Computer Search BCR 137, which lets you get 1 particular card from your deck if you discard 2 cards in hand. This ACE SPEC is similar to Guzma BUS 115.Other SuggestionsLugia VSTARYou can use Lugia VSTAR SIT 139 and its evolution line in this archetype. More specifically, you'll focus on its VSTAR ability to summon Archeops SIT 147 from your discard pile to your bench. After all, Archeops SIT 147's ability lets you attach special energies like Growing Grass Energy me03 086 to your Pokémon and give them 20 HP per energy. If you end up losing these energies with cards like Cheryl BST 123 or Max Potion GRI 128, you can get them back with Special Charge STS 105.Vileplume - A Control StrategyIts ability prevents both players from using Items. Like so, you can just focus on Cheryl BST 123 to heal.Final WordsProsTo deal 260 damage with this deck, you only need 1 energy. This amount of damage easily knocks out a few TAG TEAM Pokémon at once (like Gengar & Mimikyu-GX TEU 53 and Pikachu & Zekrom-GX TEU 33). With Lurantis PR-SM SM25, you can knock out, in a single blow, around 90% of the TAG TEAM Pokémon in the format, including Mewtwo & Mew-GX UNM 71 and Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX CEC 156.It can also take down Pokémon with over 300 HP in 2 turns. This includes Mega Pokémon ex, Trainer's Partner Pokémon, Pokémon VMAX, and more.It has an advantage against Pokémon like Mega Absol ex me01 086, Mega Darkrai ex me05 048, Cynthia's Garchomp ex DRI 104, and Marnie's Grimmsnarl ex DRI 136 because they're weak to Grass Pokémon. If you use Supereffective Glasses ASR 152 to deal 3x as much damage, you'll knock them out for good, as you'll deal 780 damage!Blastoise & Piplup-GX CEC 38 will also struggle a lot against this deck because it's weak to Grass Pokémon.Fire archetypes are not that favored against this deck because of Cherrim UPR 11's ability. They have to resort to blunt damage to try to win.ConsDecks that use Bastiodon me05 062 as support are difficult to deal with because Lurantis ex me05 004 will need 3 energies to attack in this case, instead of 1.Decks that use Iron Thorns ex sv06 077 can be tough, as its ability disables abilities on single-prize Pokémon. It will disrupt your recursive Pokémon considerably.Spread strategies, like Dragapult ex sv06 130, that use damage counter Pokémon (like Dusknoir PRE 37 or similar) are dangerous because this deck doesn't play a bench protector.Aggressive, fast sniper decks, like Greninja VUNION, which deals 100 damage to all benched Pokémon, are also tough. They will destroy your recursive Pokémon quite fast and disrupt your early setup. Once again, please note that this deck doesn't play a bench protector.Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX CEC 156 can be difficult as well.Decks with Mewtwo & Mew-GX UNM 71 that copy Glaceon-EX FCO 20's Crystal Ray attack will prevent evolution Pokémon from dealing damage.Decks with Regidrago VSTAR SIT 136 and Dragon Pokémon that can copy attacks and deal enough damage to take down Lurantis ex me05 004 will be difficult to deal with.Decks that use the attack "Amnesia" to prevent you from using Lively Cutter are tough as well. Finally, Pokémon that are immune to Pokémon ex, like Mimikyu sv2 97, are favored against this deck. What do you think?
