Introduction

In this article, we'll explore 10 more cards. This time, we'll explore the top 10 worst ACE SPECs.

These cards are easily "countered" by others, or are so inefficient that they're often a waste of a slot in your deck. They might have also just not aged well with time.

Let's go!

Top 10 Worst ACE SPECs of All Time

10 - G Scope & G Booster (Black/White: Plasma Blast)

Our first cards are the ACE SPECs centered around Team Plasma's Genesect-EX PLB 11. These cards didn't age well at all.

They were incredibly useful in Black & White's Standard format in 2013, but, as time went on, power creep and "HP creep" pushed out Team Plasma's Genesect-EX out of the format. After some time, we could simply play better Pokémon with better attacks that cost less energies, so these cards also disappeared.

9 - Crystal Edge & Crystal Wall (Black/White: Boundaries Crossed)

These cards also faced the same problem as Team Plasma's Genesect-EX. Once White Kyurem-EX and Black Kyurem-EX disappeared from the format, pushed out by better options, their ACE SPECs also disappeared. White Kyurem-EX (both White Kyurem-EX PLS 96 and White Kyurem-EX BCR 103) needs a lot of energy to attack - there are many other Pokémon that do the same as it does, more efficiently, and for less energies.

Furthermore, these ACE SPECs can easily be removed by cards like Megaton Blower SSP 182 (a superior ACE SPEC), Startling Megaphone FLF 97, Field Blower GRI 125, and Tool Scrapper DRX 116. Even Jamming Tower TWM 153 can remove them, so they're basically a waste of a deck slot.

Black Kyurem-EX, in fact, needs Crystal Wall BCR 139 to be competitive, as it buffs its HP, while Scarlet & Violet Pokémon easily have 300 HP or more. Black Kyurem-EX is quickly disappearing from the game altogether.

8 - Victory Piece (Black/White: Plasma Storm)

This ACE SPEC is basically too inconsistent to see play competitively. There are simply better options.

Its effect lets Victini-EX PLS 18 use any type of energy, as well as much of them as you want, to attack. However, Victini-EX PLS 18 doesn't have a lot of HP, and its attacks aren't that great.

Currently, we can play better Pokémon that do the same, like Reshiram V SIT 24 and Chi-Yu ex sv2 40, which deals 100 damage and also lets you attach basic Fire energies to 3 Benched Pokémon.

Furthermore, as it is a Tool, you can easily deal with it with Megaton Blower SSP 182 and simpler cards like Startling Megaphone FLF 97, Field Blower GRI 125, or Tool Scrapper DRX 116, or even Jamming Tower TWM 153.

7 - Amulet of Hope (Scarlet/Violet: Surging Sparks)

This card is another Tool that is not worth a deck slot because you can easily counter it with Megaton Blower SSP 182, Startling Megaphone FLF 97, Field Blower GRI 125, Tool Scrapper DRX 116, and Jamming Tower TWM 153.

It lets you look at 3 cards of any type in your deck, but you can only use it when the Pokémon it is attached to is Knocked Out. It's basically like Radiant Jirachi SIT 120, which is a much better option in Expanded.

6 - Sparkling Crystal (Scarlet/Violet: Stellar Crown)

This card might be useful in Standard to attack with Stellar Terastal ex (and, in some cases, with Tera Pokémon ex, like Dragapult ex TWM 130), but it was actually an attempt by the Pokémon Company to fix a few problems created by the Stellar Terastal mechanic. It essentially forces players to play a third energy in their deck, which occupies valuable slots you could use with other, more efficient cards.

Long-term, in Expanded, this card will also disappear because there are many other special energies that are much better with these Stellar Tera Pokémon ex, like Aurora Energy SSH 186 and Rainbow Energy BKT 152.

And, of course, as it is a Tool, you can easily counter it with cards like Megaton Blower SSP 182, Startling Megaphone FLF 97, Field Blower GRI 125, or Tool Scrapper DRX 116, besides Jamming Tower TWM 153.

5 - Brilliant Blender (Scarlet/Violet: Surging Sparks)

Brilliant Blender can fool less experienced players because it sees play in the successful Ceruledge ex SSP 36 and because it discards a lot of energies at once. However, it has the same problem as Sparkling Crystal, and, long-term, will be forgotten. We have a much better option in Expanded: Battle Compressor Team Flare Gear PHF 92.

Though Battle Compressor discards 3 cards at a time, while Brilliant Blender discards 5, Brilliant Blender occupies the ACE SPEC slot in your deck, and you could use more efficient ACE SPECs in it - for instance, Dowsing Machine PLS 128, Secret Box TWM 163 or Computer Search BCR 137.

4 - All ACE SPEC Special Energies - Neo Upper Energy, Legacy Energy, and Enriching Energy

These special energies are a prime example of The Pokémon Company's failures. They are easily countered by Enhanced Hammer TWM 148, Giacomo sv2 182, and Megaton Blower SSP 182.

Furthermore, Temple of Sinnoh ASR 155 (reinforcing, context in Expanded) turns these special energies into "colorless" energies.

They might be relevant in Standard right now, but they'll easily be forgotten after they rotate out of the format.

3 - Gold Potion (Black/White: Boundaries Crossed)

Loading icon

Gold Potion seemed a great card in the Black & White era, but, with time, it was overshadowed by more efficient options. It occupies an essential space in your deck, and, as it is an ACE SPEC, playing it in competitive settings is simply not worth it.

Max Potion GRI 128, for instance, is a lot more efficient because it heals your Pokémon in full and doesn't force you to discard energies. Super Potion XY 128 and Hyper Potion SSH 166 are much simpler, better options, even in Expanded.

The worst part is that it only heals your active Pokémon, so you can't use it in any other Pokémon in play.

2 - Poké Vital A (Scarlet/Violet: Shrouded Fable)

Loading icon

Poké Vital A SFA 62 is even worse than Gold Potion BCR 140 because, besides struggling with the same issues we described above, it has an even stricter restriction: you can't recycle it if it is discarded.

It might heal 150 damage, but we can use better cards, like Max Potion GRI 128, which is more efficient and a lot less restrictive.

1 - Dangerous Laser (Scarlet/Violet: Shrouded Fable)

Dangerous Laser is one of the most useless cards ever created. It Poisons and Burns the active Pokémon, but there are simply other Pokémon that can apply these special statuses more efficiently, like Celebi & Venusaur-GX TEU 1's Pollen Hazard.

It tried so much to be Hypnotoxic Laser PLS 123, but it simply failed. It was probably better as an Item, not an ACE SPEC.
