Introduction

Now that we've discussed the most expensive Magikarplink outside website ever released in Pokémon TCG, let's see the most expensive Gyarados ever released. This Water Pokémon is also a fan favorite, both because of its nostalgic Pokédex entry and its iconic evolution line.

That being said, let's see the most expensive Gyarados ever released!

Gyarados: Top 10 Most Expensive Cards

[h2]{10 - Misty's Gyarados

(Wizards of the Coast Era: Gym Challenge, 1st Edition, Holo Foil - 013/132)}

Our first Gyarados is Misty's Gyarados. By the way, we have already discussed the most expensive Misty cards ever releasedlink outside website too!

When this card was in Standard, back in the Wizards of the Coast era, it was quite decent because of its ability. Whenever it attacks, it forces us to flip two coins: if we get tails, Gyarados can't attack, and we have to shuffle all cards attached to it back into our

deck. This made it quite risky in competitive settings.

However, for collectors, this card became quite valuable because of Misty's Gyarados DRI 49, from Scarlet & Violet: Destined Rivals. Considering that and how popular Misty and her Gyarados are already, this card is currently quite expensive.

Price: US$250.

9 - Gyarados (X/Y: Ancient Origins - Pre-Release Promo - XY60)

Like all pre-release cards, this one is naturally more expensive than the other basic versions.

Its first attack is quite useful, as it deals damage to the enemy Pokémon based on how many damage counters our benched Magikarp have. In pre-release events, which are more chaotic and unpredictable, it was excellent.

This impressive illustration was created by Tokiya Sakuba, who has worked with The Pokémon Company since Diamond & Pearl: Arceus.

Price: US$260.

8 - Gyarados-EX (X/Y: BREAKPoint - Secret Art - 123/122)

This is a great Secret Rare from the X/Y block. It was created by the legendary Mitsuhiro Arita.

Price: US$300.

7 - Giovanni's Gyarados (Wizards of the Coast Era: Gym Challenge, 1st Edition, Holo Foil - 005/132)

This Gyarados is from the Gym Challenge set, from the Wizards of the Coast era as well. It shares the Trainer Partner theme with Misty's Gyarados G2 13.

We mentioned it when we discussed the the most valuable Giovanni cards of all timelink outside website.

Price: US$375.

6 - Gyarados (X/Y: Ancient Origins - Pre-Release Staff Promo - XY60)

This card is identical to Gyarados PR-XY XY60, which we've mentioned above, but it has the "Staff" logo. It was handed out exclusively to tournament organizers in pre-release events.

Price: US$1,000.

5 - Gyarados (X/Y: Evolutions - Pre-Release Staff Promo - 34/108)

This is a different read on the classic Gyarados BS 6 from Wizards of the Coast's Base Set era. Evolutions brought all the nostalgia of the Base Set to the X/Y block and adapted each card to fit the "power level" of the game at the time.

Because this is a "Staff Promo" card, tied to the Base Set, it became quite valuable with time.

Price: US$ 1,200.

4 - Gyarados (e-Card Series: Skyridge - Holofoil - H10/H32)

During the e-Cards era, some Holofoil cards were set apart from the others with an H stamp. These cards are now highly valuable in the Pokémon TCG market.

Its main attack deals 100 damage if it has 7 or more damage counters attached to itself, but this, obviously, was quite dangerous. We also had to rely on Blastoise BS 2's ability, Rain Dance, to attach energies to it. It was one of the few consistent ways to attach energies to heavy Pokémon like Gyarados.

This dark illustration was created by Kimiya Masago, who worked with the Pokémon Company from 2000 to 2005.

Price: US$ 1,400.

3 - Shining Gyarados (Wizards of the Coast Era: Neo Revelation, 1st Edition - 65/64)

Loading icon

Shining Gyarados has the same historic appeal as its previous evolution, Shining Magikarp N3 66, which marked the release of "shiny" Pokémon in the game during the Wizards of the Coast era.

It is a classic pick for collectors and sellers alike.

Price: US$1,400.

2 - Gyarados "Gold Star" (Ruby/Sapphire: Holon Phantoms)

"Delta Species" Pokémon were a unique type of Pokémon and, as such, were tied to the theme of the previous Holon Island set.

"Gold Star" Pokémon might not have been too relevant competitively speaking, but they have actually become extremely rare and valuable as collection pieces ever since they were released.

Price: US$ 2,000.

1 - Pretend Gyarados Pikachu (X/Y: Japanese Promo Cards - 151/XY-P)

Image content of the Website

This card came alongside Pretend Magikarp Pikachu and became expensive because it was illustrated by Kouki Saitou. They began working for the Pokémon Company in the X/Y block and quickly became a favorite among fans and collectors.

Just like the Magikarp we mentioned, we can only find this card in auctions and stores that review and grade cards (PSA, Beckett). Finding a random copy of it in the wild for an accessible price is nearly impossible.

Price: US$3,775.75.

Honorable Mention

Misty's Gyarados (Scarlet/Violet: Destined Rivals - Staff Promo Card, Pre-Release Event)

Price: US$90.
