Introduction

In today's article, we'll revisit VMax eeveelutions, which are often forgotten by the Pokémon TCG community. The goal is to show you how they can see play in Expanded, particularly if you enjoy this Pokémon and its evolutions or if you just want to have some fun in this format.

Let's explore Jolteon, whose main attack deals damage to both the opponent's active Pokémon and their benched Pokémon.

We also play a few new Electric Pokémon that made this deck even more powerful. For instance, now we can play Miraidon ex, from Scarlet & Violet's Base set, which lets you put Pokémon in play faster than usual, and Magneton from Scarlet & Violet's Surging Sparks, which lets you attach energies to your Pokémon!

Structure

Jolteon V & Jolteon VMax: The Main Attacker

Jolteon V PR-SW SWSH151 has two great attacks:

Thunder Spear is a "sniper" attack that deals 20 damage to one benched enemy Pokémon.

Pin Missile, in turn, has you flip four coins, and deals up to 240 damage if you hit "heads" on all of them.

When you evolve it to Jolteon VMAX EVS 51, its attack, Max Thunder Rumble, deals damage to both the opponent's active Pokémon and one of their benched Pokémon, so it's also a "sniper" attack.

Furthermore, this Pokémon has a lot of HP for a VMax Pokémon, and has no retreat cost, which is excellent.

Raikou V: Fast, Practical, Emergency Attacker

Raikou V BRS 48's Lightning Rondo attack deals damage based on how many Pokémon are on both players' benches, which is 220 in total if they are full.

Its ability, Fleet-Footed, lets you draw a card if it is your active Pokémon, so it makes this deck more consistent. And, because it is a Pokémon V, you can attach Forest Seal Stone SIT 156 to it and use its VStar power, in case Rotom V wasn't enough.

Iron Hands ex: The Strategic Attacker

Iron Hands ex sv4 70 stands out because of its attack, Amp You Very Much. If you knock down the opponent's active Pokémon with it, you'll get an extra Prize card.

This strategy is useful if you need to put pressure on decks that rely on low-HP Pokémon or simply draw Prize cards faster. It also has a great synergy with Jolteon VMax, which deals damage to enemy Pokémon continuously.

Support Pokémon

- Rotom V CRZ 45: its ability, Instant Charge, draws three cards, but ends your turn. It is perfect at the beginning of the game if your hand isn't the best.

- Miraidon ex PR-SV 28: its ability, Tandem Unite, helps you fill out your bench quickly with basic Electric Pokémon.

- Dedenne-GX UNB 57: its ability, Dedechange, discards your hand and draws six new cards, so it's a strategic reset.

- Magneton PR-SV 153: with Overvolt Discharge, you'll be able to attach three basic energies to your Pokémon in exchange for sacrificing this Pokémon.

Trainers

Supporters

Arven sv3 186: draws essential Items and Tools, like Quick Ball FST 237 and Elemental Badge EVS 147.

Guzma BUS 115: pulls a benched enemy Pokémon into the active position, but you'll also have to swap your active Pokémon for one of your benched Pokémon too.

Elemental Badge EVS 147 discounts the cost of Jolteon's attack by one colorless energy.

So, when you use Jolteon VMax's attack, Max Thunder Rumble, with this tool, it will cost (L) instead of (L)(C).

Forest Seal Stone SIT 156's VStar ability is great, as it lets you get any card in your deck and add it to your hand.

Stadiums

Thunder Mountain ◇ LOT 191 discounts the cost of Electric attacks by one Electric energy.

If Jolteon VMax has Elemental Badge EVS 147 attached, and this stadium is in play, you can attack with Max Thunder Rumble without spending any energies!

Stormy Mountains EVS 161 helps you build your bench, as it lets you get a basic Electric or Dragon Pokémon from your deck and put it in play.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

- This deck is great against Water decks.

- It is also great against decks that rely on low-HP Pokémon.

Cons:

- This deck doesn't perform well against fast, resistant Fighting decks.

- It also struggles against decks that are immune to Pokémon V damage or play Pokémon that protect their bench, like Manaphy BRS 41.

Final Words

Jolteon VMax is a practical, fun option that plays fast, efficient attacks. Though it doesn't deal as much damage as other Pokémon VMax, it makes up for it with versatility and support for other attackers, like Raikou V and Iron Hands ex.
