Scarlet & Violet: Prismatic Evolutions - Products, Cards, and Spoilers Review

The new Pokémon TCG special set, Prismatic Evolutions, will be released in the west in January 2025! It is the fourth special set in this block.

It was released in the east, more specifically Japan, on December 6th, 2024, in fact; The release date for the west is January 17th, 2024. This set will focus on "Stellar Terastal" eeveelutions, but it will also reprint many important cards, which will definitely make them cheaper.

Prismatic Evolutions was inspired by Terastal Festival ex, the Japanese-exclusive set. We briefly discussed this set when its trademark was leaked alongside many others for 2024's second semester.

The Pokémon Company still hasn't announced how much this set will cost, but they have announced its release date.

Please note that there are no booster boxes or pre-release kits in western special sets!

Elite Trainer Box

This product includes:

- One Promo Pokémon card in each Elite Trainer Box will be an Illustration Rare Eevee. The "Pokémon Center" Elite Trainer Box will include two of these promo cards, and one will feature the "Pokémon Center" logo.

- 6 damage counter dice, and 1 coin flip die.

- 65 card sleeves featuring Eevee as a Stellar Tera Pokémon.

- 2 plastic condition markers.

- A box to hold everything, with 4 dividers to keep it organized.

- A player’s guide to the Scarlet & Violet—Prismatic Evolutions expansion.

- A code card for Pokémon Trading Card Game Live.

- The standard ETB includes nine boosters, and the Pokémon Center ETB includes eleven boosters. Each booster includes 11 cards (10 Pokémon or Trainer cards, and 1 basic energy), and a code for Pokémon Trading Card Game Live.

The basic energies will feature the Glass Stained style, as if they were "Terastal energies", so they reference the Terastal mechanic itself:

This product includes 5 Prismatic Evolutions boosters, and a mini-binder to hold everything and keep it organized.

This product includes 3 Prismatic Evolutions boosters, a promo Vaporeon sv3pt5 134, Flareon sv3pt5 136, and Jolteon sv3pt5 135 ("reprints" of the 151 special set), and a poster.

Prismatic Evolutions - Triple Pack / Tech Sticker

This product includes 3 Prismatic Evolutions boosters, one promo Glaceon, Leafeon, or Sylveon, and one tech sticker sheet.

Prismatic Evolutions - Tins

This product includes 2 Prismatic Evolutions boosters, a Pokémon art card showing the art from this Mini Tin, which you can collect and combine, and a promo acrylic coin.

Prismatic Evolutions - Mystery Box

This product includes 4 Prismatic Evolutions boosters, one box to store your collection, and a random promo card. You can get an Eevee or one of its evolutions, and these promo cards are different from the "ex" eeveelutions.

This product includes 6 Prismatic Evolutions boosters.

Prismatic Evolutions - Accessory Pouch Special Collection

This product includes 5 Prismatic Evolutions boosters, and one Eevee-themed Accessory Pouch.

Prismatic Evolutions - Super-Premium Collection

Release date: May 16th, 2025.

Prismatic Evolutions - Premium Figure Collection

Release date: September 26th, 2025.

This set will feature "Stellar Terastal" Eeveelutions.

However, there are some differences between the Japanese collection and the one set to be released as the Western base:

- A large portion of Pokémon cards—both the "baby" and "ex" types—will be reprints from previous Scarlet & Violet collections. However, some staple Pokémon in the format will not be included in the Western collection, such as the highly anticipated Fezandipiti ex SFA 38.

- The adaptation of the Western collection will feature Pokémon ex from the small set of theme decks called the "Starter Deck Generations." For more information, check out this article.

- The ACE SPECs of this set will only bring two new cards. Regarding the “reprints” of other sets, which will help reduce their price on the market, the biggest expectation is the arrival of Prime Catcher TEF 157.

From left to right (keep in mind that all have the same Terastal ability - if they're on your bench, they are not affected by attacks, both your opponent's and yours):

Eevee ex

Basic Pokémon.

Ability - Rainbow DNA: This Pokémon can evolve into any Pokémon ex that evolves from Eevee if you play it from your hand onto this Pokémon. (This Pokémon can't evolve during your first turn or the turn you play it.)

Attack - Quartz Shine (F)(W)(L): 200 damage.

Vaporeon ex

Stage 1 Pokémon: Evolves from Eevee.

Attack - Heavy Squall (W)(C): This attack does 60 damage to each of your opponent's Pokémon ex. This attack's damage isn't affected by Weakness or Resistance.

Attack - Aquamarine (F)(W)(L): 280 damage. This Pokémon can't attack next turn.

Flareon ex

Stage 1 Pokémon: Evolves from Eevee.

Attack - Burning Charge (F)(C): 130 damage. Search your deck for up to 2 Basic Energy cards and attach them to 1 of your Pokémon. Then, shuffle your deck.

Attack - Carnelian (F)(W)(L): 280 damage. This Pokémon can't attack next turn.

Jolteon ex

Stage 1 Pokémon: Evolves from Eevee.

Attack - Flash Spear (L)(C): 60 base damage. You may discard up to 2 Basic Energy from your Benched Pokémon. This attack does 90 more damage for each card you discarded in this way.

Attack - Dravite (F)(W)(L): 280 damage. This Pokémon can't attack next turn.

Espeon ex

Stage 1 Pokémon: Evolves from Eevee.

Attack - Psych Out (P)(C)(C): 160 damage. Discard a random card from your opponent's hand.

Attack - Amethyst (G)(P)(D): Devolve each of your opponent's evolved Pokémon by shuffling the highest Stage Evolution card on it into your opponent's deck.

Umbreon ex

Stage 1 Pokémon: Evolves from Eevee.

Attack - Moon Mirage (D)(C)(C): 160 damage. Your opponent's Active Pokémon is now Confused.

Attack - Onyx (L)(P)(D): Discard all Energy from this Pokémon, and take a Prize card.

Leafeon ex

Stage 1 Pokémon: Evolves from Eevee.

Attack - Leaf Typhoon (G)(C): This attack does 60 damage for each Energy attached to all of your opponent's Pokémon.

Attack - Moss Agate (G)(F)(W): 230 damage. Heal 100 damage from each of your Benched Pokémon.

Glaceon ex

Stage 1 Pokémon: Evolves from Eevee.

Attack - Frost Bullet (W)(C): 110 damage. This attack also does 30 damage to 1 of your opponent's Benched Pokémon. (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.)

Attack - Euclase (G)(W)(C): Knock Out 1 of your opponent's Pokémon that has exactly 6 damage counters on it.

Sylveon ex

Stage 1 Pokémon: Evolves from Eevee.

Attack - Magical Charm (P)(C)(C): 160 damage. During your opponent's next turn, attacks used by the Defending Pokémon do 100 less damage (before applying Weakness and Resistance).

Attack - Angelite (W)(L)(P): Choose 2 of your opponent's Benched Pokémon. Shuffle those Pokémon and all attached cards into your opponent's deck. If 1 of your Pokémon used Angelite during your last turn, this attack can't be used.

Most of the collection will feature reprints of Pokémon ex cards from previous sets.

However, as mentioned earlier, the Japanese and Western collections will differ significantly.

Some Pokémon from this set have been excluded, such as Kyogre ex, Blaziken ex, Dialga ex, Amoonguss ex, Reshiram ex, Xerneas ex.

The most relevant ones for the new collection in the competitive scene are:

Budew

Basic Pokémon.

Attack - Itchy Pollen (No Energy): 10 damage. During your opponent's next turn, they can't play any Items from their hand.

This Pokémon will be popular in control strategies.

Regigigas

Basic Pokémon.

Attack - Jewel Breaker (C)(C)(C)(C): 100 base damage. If your opponent's active Pokémon is a Terastal Pokémon ex, this attack deals an extra 230 damage.

Supporters

From left to right:

- Larry's Skill (Supporter): Discard your hand and search your deck for a Pokémon, a Supporter card, and a Basic Energy card, reveal them, and put them into your hand. Then, shuffle your deck.

- Amarys (Supporter): Draw 4 cards. If, at the end of your turn, you have 5 or more cards, discard your entire hand.

- Friends in Paldea (Supporter): Draw 3 cards.

This card is quite weak, and not relevant competitively. It is only interesting for collectors who enjoy characters from this part of the franchise. Here are a few cards from other sets featuring these characters:

Additionally, some Supporters from the "ex Starter Deck Generations" set will appear in the Western version, such as Black Belt's Practice in various versions representing Pokémon regions (from Kanto to Paldea), as well as Professor's Research, now featuring new artworks spanning from Kanto to Paldea!

Black Belt’s Practice

- Black Belt's Karate (Supporter): Provides 40 more damage against the opponent's Active Pokémon that is a "Pokémon ex" on the turn you play it.

Professor’s Research

- Professor's Research (Supporter): Discard your hand and draw 7 new cards.

Item

Item cards are also reprinted, giving many players the opportunity to acquire more affordable cards.

Item - MAX Rod: Search for any combination of 5 Pokémon and basic energies in your discard pile and put them in your hand.
