Introduction

In today's article, we'll explore Salamence VMax, a VMax Pokémon that, despite being a bit forgotten, is extremely efficient with Lugia VSTAR SIT 139 and Archeops PR-SW SWSH272. This combination lets you attach Powerful Colorless Energy DAA 176 to your Pokémon, and also deal more damage with their attacks.

Furthermore, this deck also plays secondary attackers that are better with Salamence VMax's "sniper" attack, like Raikou Amazing Rare, which is perfect if you need to deal sniper damage. Yveltal Amazing Rare is better if you want to knock out an enemy Pokémon immediately, and Iron Hands ex is better if you want to draw extra Prize cards, but there are many others.

Let's get right to it.

Lugia VStar + Salamence VMax: Incomparable Versatility

The Structure

Lugia V & Lugia VStar: Engine and First Attacker

Lugia V's base form is versatile, as well as essential for the early game. You'll use its attack, Read the Wind, to discard an Archeops PR-SW SWSH272 so you can use its VStar ability, Assemble Star, as fast as possible.

This ability lets you get up to two colorless Pokémon without any Rule Box directly from your discard pile and put them on your bench. The goal is to have at least two Archeops PR-SW SWSH272 on your bench as fast as possible.

With Primal Turbo's, Acheops' ability, you'll be able to attach energies to your attackers; more precisely, you'll get two special energies from your deck. This way, you'll be able to use Lugia VStar's Storm Dive faster, and it can deal up to 300 damage with four Powerful Colorless Energy DAA 176.

Salamence V & Salamence VMax: The Main Attacker

Salamence V has two useful attacks: Swoop Across, which deals 30 damage to all enemy Pokémon, and Heavy Storm, which deals 160 base damage. With Powerful Colorless Energy DAA 176, you'll deal more damage with your active Pokémon, so 110 with Swoop Across, or up to 240 with Heavy Storm.

Salamence VMax's upgraded version also has powerful, versatile attacks:

Sonic Double deals 40 damage to two enemy Pokémon. When you equip four Powerful Colorless Energy DAA 176 to it, you'll deal 120 damage with your active Pokémon.

Max Wings deals 240 damage, which is already a lot, and can deal up to 320 with the energies above.

Iron Hands ex: The Strategic Attacker

Its attack, Amp You Very Much, draws you one extra Prize card when you knock out the opponent's active Pokémon, so it's best with Pokémon that have less HP. To get the energies you need to use it, I highly recommend you use Aurora Energy SSH 186 and Double Colorless Energy GRI 166.

Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex: Endgame Attacker

This Pokémon is excellent for the endgame because of its ability, which makes its main attack cheaper according to how many Prize cards your opponent has taken. If they have taken five Prize cards, it will only cost one energy, and deal 240 damage.

However, Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex TWM 141 is also decent in the early game, as you can take advantage of the energies you'll get from the Lugia VStar + Archeops combo to use its effects.

Raikou Amazing Rare & Yveltal Amazing Rare: “Single Prize” Attackers

Loading icon

Raikou Amazing Rare deals 120 damage to the opponent's active Pokémon and to one of their benched Pokémon. You should use three Aurora Energy SSH 186 with it.

Yveltal Amazing Rare knocks out problematic Pokémon instantly. You'll need three Aurora Energy SSH 186 and one Double Colorless Energy GRI 166 to use it.

Trainers

Supporters and Essential Items

Professor's Research (Professor Oak) CEL 23 draws cards.

Guzma & Hala CEC 193 draws resources.

Roxanne ASR 150 sabotages your opponent's hand and renews yours in emergencies.

Battle Compressor Team Flare Gear PHF 92 filters your deck.

Special Charge STS 105 recycles special energies.

Matchups

Favorable

This deck is great against Pokémon with less HP or Water Pokémon.

Unfavorable

This deck is vulnerable to Electric decks, and Pokémon that control special energies or take advantage of them.

Final Words

This deck leans on a complex synergy between Lugia VStar and Salamence VMax, and was inspired by LAIC 2022. I don't recommend it for beginners, but, with practice, it can perform really well in your hands.
