Introduction

In this article, we'll check out the most expensive cards in the fifth Pokémon TCG set in the Mega Evolution block, Pitch Black.

Top 10 Most Expensive Cards in Pitch Black

This card was illustrated by Gemi, who is known for their Glaceon VSTAR CRZ GG40, from Sword & Shield: Crown Zenith. This artist has created 25 cards for the Pokémon TCG so far.

This Goldeen, in turn, is popular because it is a Gen I Pokémon from Kanto. It's quite nostalgic for those who enjoy the early days of the franchise.

Price: US$20.

9 - Slowbro (Illustration Rare - 90/84)

Just like Goldeen me05 87, the Pokémon above is quite nostalgic. Nonetheless, it is a bit more niche, and only those who have liked it since Gen I came out are still interested in it.

The card itself was illustrated by Mékayu, who also created Drampa TEF 184 from Scarlet & Violet: Temporal Forces.

Price: US$25.

8 - Gladion's Final Battle (Secret Illustration Rare - 118/84)

This card was created by DOM, who is known for using explosive elements to depict dynamic movement and their background details with radial projections. That's the case for this Gladio. The sunrays are projecting outward, and DOM has also used excellent poses and real-life perspectives to show the Pokémon and the human characters from different angles.

Their other famous works include Deoxys VSTAR CRZ GG46 (Sword/Shield: Crown Zenith), Jolteon BRS TG04 (Sword/Shield: Brilliant Stars, part of the Trainer’s Gallery), and Mega Dragonite ex me02.5 290 (Mega Evolution: Ascended Heroes).

Price: US$30.

7 - Misty's Vitality (Ultra Rare/Full Art - 111/84)

This card was illustrated by En Morikura, who has depicted many human characters in Full Art cards. For instance, Lisia's Appeal SSP 234 (Scarlet/Violet: Surging Sparks), Parasol Lady sv4 255 (Scarlet/Violet: Paradox Rift), and Caitlin CRE 189 (Sword/Shield: Chilling Reign).

This Misty, in turn, is quite popular because she is a nostalgic character from the early days of Pokémon.

Price: US$35.

6 - Gwynn (Secret Illustration Rare - 119/84)

This card was illustrated by Naoki Saito, who graduated from Tama Art University and worked for KONAMI in the past. At the Pokémon Company, they have worked on many projects, from the VGC to other media, including the final artworks for the Unova maps, characters from Sun & Moon like Dancer and Hiker, and other marketing products, like Leon's official artwork with Charizard for the Kotobukiya ArtFx J figure.

5 - Mega Chandelure ex (Secret Illustration Rare - 115/84)

This card was illustrated by the iconic REND, who is famous for making their digital illustrations feel incredibly realistic. One such example is Furret JTG 168 (Scarlet & Violet: Journey Together). You can see every strand of hair in this card, and it's as if the Pokémon were real. This is how precise REND is.

The 5th most expensive Pokémon in Pitch Black, however, is Chandelure, one of the most beloved Ghost Pokémon in the franchise, particularly among Unova fans. It's also one of the best Ghost/Fire Pokémon around.

Price: US$55.

4 - Mega Zeraora ex (Secret Illustration Rare - 114/84)

Zeraora has conquered the heart of many fans ever since it first appeared in Sun & Moon because of its mighty design, similar to a cat's.

The artist who did the card above is GIDORA, a famous name among Pokémon TCG artists. The most striking piece in their wide portfolio is Pikachu ex SSP 238 from Scarlet & Violet: Surging Sparks, one of the most expensive cards in this set.

Price: US$65.

3 - Morpeko ex (Secret Illustration Rare - 117/84)

This Pokémon became incredibly popular as soon as it was revealed in the Sword & Shield era (Gen VIII, featuring the Galar region) and became the "Pika-clone" of its generation (the name the community gives to any new rodent Pokémon that resemble Pikachu).

This is also Marnie's "signature" Pokémon, which does make it more popular. Its "dark" appearance (and its Dark type) really fits its "gothic" trainer, one of the leaders of the Spikemuth gym.

This artwork was created by NC Empire.

Price: US$140.

2 - Mega Darkrai ex (Hyper Gold Rare/Gold Full Art - 120/84)

The second most expensive Pokémon in this set is its mascot, its main star. More specifically, its Gold Full Art version.

This card might not be as popular as the Secret Art versions (the ones called SAR, Secret Art Rare), but it stands out in this market and the collector's market, particularly for those who really like Darkrai.

Price: US$210.

1 - Mega Darkrai ex (Secret Illustration Rare - 116/84)

The most expensive card in this set was illustrated by Akira Egawa.

Because of the dark atmosphere surrounding this Mega Evolution, this version is a real gift to Darkrai fans, those who have loved this Pokémon since Diamond & Pearl. If you really enjoy Egawa's dark, winding brushstrokes, similar to Giratina VSTAR CRZ GG69 from Sword & Shield: Crown Zenith, you'll also really like this card.

Price: US$300.
