Best Cards in Pokémon Pocket: Paldean Wonders

The Paldean Wonders expansion has brought new cards to Pokémon Pocket, highlighting fresh energy acceleration options, powerful abilities, and a significant buff for Stage 2 Pokémon. Below, check out the top highlights of the set and how each one might shake up the meta!

Electric Generator

Electric Generator is one of the premier Lightning type energy acceleration cards in Paldean Wonders. When played, you flip a coin; if heads, you can attach a Lightning Energy from your energy zone to one of your Benched Lightning Pokémon.

Despite relying on luck, the effect can drastically speed up the pace of the game. In decks focused on the Lightning type, this card helps reach critical milestones quickly, such as the four energy requirement needed to maximize Bellibolt ex's damage. With a strong start, it is possible to set up heavy hitters in the very first turns.

Big Air Balloon

This Tool provides a massive boost to Stage 2 Pokémon. When attached, the Pokémon has no Retreat Cost.

This allows for total mobility for Pokémon that would normally be stuck in the Active Spot, facilitating strategic switches and improving the consistency of decks based on advanced evolutions. It may also support tank strategies involving Pokémon that typically suffer from high retreat costs.

Team Star Grunt

This Supporter removes a random Energy from one of your opponent's Pokémon that has an Ability. Unlike older cards, this one does not require a coin flip, which is a huge improvement.

It is a compelling tech choice against decks that rely heavily on Abilities to function.

Nimona

The Nimona Supporter card serves as a specialized tool for aggressive strategies featuring Pawmot. She allows you to boost Pawmot’s damage against Pokémon ex, pushing the attack up to 180 damage. This turns the Pokémon into an efficient option for sniping major threats out of the match.

While the combo is situational, it can catch opponents off guard and secure decisive Knockouts at critical moments, perhaps even against Mega Evolutions.

Skeledirge

Skeledirge is one of the standout Fire type supports in this expansion. Its Ability allows you to discard a Fire Energy to increase the damage dealt by your Fire Pokémon by 50 during that turn.

The key advantage here is that the effect stacks. With two Skeledirge on the field, the bonus can reach +100 damage, turning any Fire attacker into an immediate threat. In decks with solid energy acceleration, this card becomes extremely dangerous.

Arboliva

Geared toward defensive support, Arboliva possesses an Ability that heals 60 damage from a Pokémon ex with energy attached. In exchange, one energy is randomly discarded from that Pokémon.

Despite the cost, the significant healing can keep your primary attackers in play longer, making it a viable option for stall or high durability strategies. It might even provide a much needed boost to Mega Venusaur ex.

Orthworm

Orthworm acts as a Metal Energy accelerator. While its attack deals low damage, it allows you to attach a Metal Energy from the energy zone to a Benched Pokémon.

This Ability is particularly useful in strategies involving Gholdengo ex or other Metal type attackers with heavy energy requirements.

Baxcalibur

Baxcalibur is poised to be a new cornerstone for Water type decks. Its Ability allows you to attach Water Energies directly to the Active Pokémon.

The effect can also stack, making it possible to set up powerful back to back attacks. Besides its obvious synergy with Chien-Pao ex, it accelerates various other Water attackers that depend on high energy counts.

Espathra

Espathra functions as a counter card. Its attack deals 30 base damage plus an additional 20 for each energy on the opponent's Active Pokémon.

Against opponents that hoard energy, it can hit surprising damage numbers for a low cost, all while being a single prize card. While not a meta defining card on its own, it is a great utility pick if the metagame shifts toward energy heavy builds.

Quaquaval

Quaquaval features the Torrent ability, which increases its damage by 60 when its HP is at 50 or less.

Although the condition is risky, it can reach around 150 damage. Since it isn't a Pokémon ex, the risk of giving up multiple prizes is lower. It is worth testing in certain Water archetypes, though its high cost as a Stage 2 Pokémon means there are often more efficient options available.

Pawmot

Pawmot deals 100 damage for two Lightning Energies and discards one after the attack. When paired with Nimona, it can hit for 180 damage against Pokémon ex.

Despite its potential, it faces stiff competition from other versions of itself within the format, as well as other Lightning archetypes like Jolteon ex. However, it is worth considering as a high damage, single prize attacker when used with Nimona!

It could become even more relevant if the metagame becomes saturated with Water type Pokémon.

Bellibolt ex

Bellibolt ex is an efficient Lightning attacker that scales easily. Its attack deals 70 damage but jumps to 140 if there are four or more Lightning Energies in play.

With acceleration cards like Magneton and Electric Generator, it is possible to meet this requirement quickly, applying pressure in the early game or, at the very least, maintaining mid game consistency.

Armarouge ex

Armarouge ex stands out for its resilience; despite having only 140 HP, its ability reduces incoming damage by 30, boosting its survivability.

Its main attack deals 120 damage for three energies and discards one energy after use. Because it requires Colorless energies, it is relatively easy to set up and works beautifully in decks with Fire Energy recovery or acceleration. As a Stage 1 Pokémon, it can still benefit from damage boosters like Skeledirge, making it a very consistent attacker.

Chien-Pao ex

Chien-Pao ex is notable for its Bench sniping potential. Its attack discards all Water Energies to deal 130 damage to any of the opponent's Pokémon.

While the cost is steep, the combo with Baxcalibur solves this, allowing for rapid recharges and constant pressure. Furthermore, as a Basic Pokémon, it can be easily integrated into Water decks without drastically altering the setup.

Meowscarada ex

Unlike attackers focused on brute force, Meowscarada ex relies on tactical planning. Its Flower Trick attack costs only one Grass Energy and deals 70 damage to any of the opponent's Pokémon (Active or Benched) at the end of the next turn.

This allows you to interrupt evolutions and pick off Basic Pokémon before they become a threat, or set up a Knockout on a high HP target for the following turn. Its second attack, Solar Beam, deals 80 damage for two energies, providing a solid fallback option.

Gholdengo ex

Gholdengo ex is one of the set's biggest highlights due to its scalable damage potential. With 150 HP, it has decent bulk, but the real star is its Spending Rush attack.

For each Metal Energy attached, a random opponent's Pokémon is chosen to take 40 damage. The more energy on the field, the higher the pressure, whether you are spreading damage across the bench or concentrating enough for a decisive Knockout.

In long matches, the growth potential of this attack can become devastating, especially if the deck has reliable ways to accelerate energy and sustain the game.
